The reason was a compli- cated combination of several factors hut indeed it was good to be missed. At this time, I would like to extend to the Editor, the staff and to the readers my sincere wishes for a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. My appreciation to those who have assisted by the submitting of both news items and subscriptions over the year. Merry Christmas. At this festive time of year, it is sadder than ever to have a bereavement in the family. Sympathy of the community goes to Mr. -and Mrs. Ivan Thompson and family and other relatives of Harvey Thompson of Oshawa who passed away after a long illness. Harvey was the youngest of the five Thompson brothers: of Nestleton. He attended school here in Cartwright and has many friends in the area. Best wishes for better health go to Bill Johnston who underwent foot surgery in Port Perry Hospital last week, and to Judy Henry who is a patient in Oshawa Hospital. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin entertained the United Church Choir and their spouses to a pot luck supper. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Young of Hamilton spent last week- end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright. Two excellent Christmas concerts were held last week at the Cartwright Central Public School. On Tuesday afternoon the classes of Grades, 1-5 performed for a fine number of parents and friends. The programme included Mrs. Green's class and Christmas verse and songs followed by Mrs. Oxley's Five Jingle Bells and a Little Old Man. Mrs. Thompson's class did a chant '"'Goldilocks and the Three Bears." Miss Morton's pupils performed two rhythm band numbers, Magic Time and O Come Little Children. Mrs. Hanson's class had the Christmas Clock. Mrs. Turner's class sang Up on the Housetop followed by Mrs. Swain's class Christ- mas Alphabet. The Primary Choir directed by Mrs. Swain and Miss Morton sang three numbers, Little Shepherd, That's What I want for Christmas and Thirty Two Feed and Eight Little Tails. Mrs. Dorrell's class pre- sented Jimmy Jet and his TV set. Miss Howsan directed her class in the winter song, Snowflakes. Mrs. Argue's class had Lights of Christ- mas (Choral speaking) and the song Christmas candle. Mr. Challice's class pre- sented a recitation Dad's bills, a play, Santa on Trial and a skit Foolish Questions. Mrs. Hockley's class pre- sented some nifty square dancing. Mr. Smith's students presented a play Mey enchantment be your gift at Christmas. Our gift is your friendship, thanks. Utica Farm Equipment Ltd. Clem the Clumsy Camel after which Mrs. Elliott's class showed that Christmas Belongs to the World. The Junior Choir under the direc- tion of Miss Howsam sang Jingle Bell Rock, Nuttin' for Christmas and Do You Hear What I Hear? followed by the Senior Concert Band also under the direction of Miss Howsam bringing a fine concert:to a conclusion. On Wednesday the Seniors presented their concert to another fine crowd which opened with the Cartwright Central Concert Band doing their thing under the direc- tion of Miss Howsam. The Grade 6's directed by Mrs. Rink sang Christmas Music from Other Lands. Mr. Kitchen's Grade 7 class pre- sented a play Frosty the Snowman, after which Miss Howsam's Junior Choir sang. Mr. Fis' Grade 8 class sang Christmas Music with a Difference. Mr. Dean's Grade 8 class gave a warning when they pre- sented the play, The Boy who Laughed at Santa. Mrs. Dixon directed the Cart- wright Central Intermediate Choir and the Cartwright Edition in a fine selection of Christmas music. At both churches on Sunday evening Christmas concerts were held. At the Anglican a pageant was. performed by the Sunday School children under the direction of Catherine Corden, Linda McLaughlin and-Sharon Umphrey. Brent McLaughlin acted as a fine narrator for the programme which included trios, quartettes and group numbers. A fellowship followed. Christmas Eve service will be held at 9:30 |... p.m Sunday School held the annual Candlelight Service with--superintendent Donna Kyte conducting the service. The primary Choir sang two numbers followed by Karen Kyte reading a Poem. The 7 and 8 year old presented a story The - Innkeeper's Daughter. During the offering Jason Kyte played Little Drummer Boy after which The Jesse Tree was presented. The Junior Choir May the glorious light of Christmas bring you, and those you love, enduring Hope and Happiness. Following the lighting of candles a fellow- ship time was enjoyed. Christmas Eve service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Many from this area attended the Golden Wedding celebration of Roy and Ethel Robertson of Port Perry on Sunday afternoon. This was held at the Latcham Centre. The parents of the play- ground committee would like to thank the 'Blackstock Chapter of the Lions Club for taking over the project of installing playground equip- ment in C.C.P.S. This gesture will be appreciated by the students, the parents and the community as a whole. The O.N.O. met at the home of Elaine Bailey on Dec. 17th. The ususal reports were given. The large basketball standards at the Rec Centre are to be donated to. the High School but must be removed from the Rec Centre and stored elsewhere. Inquiries are still being made into commercial dish- washers. We are very inter- ested in having one at the Rec. Centre. .
