Christmas and all through twelve midnight and Tom his head 'yes'. He climbed Santa was about to scold him the house not a creature was was making sure it would out of his window and onto but he was covered with soot stirring except Jerry the be loud. the roof. He got into the from his head to his toes and mouse. Jerry was inside his little apartment behind the mouse hole thinking of the letter he had written to Santa. He had asked for a whole swiss cheese. Since he had been a good mouse he was pretty sure he would get it. He could almost smell that delicious cheesey smell. Just then his eye caught sight of the clock. It was almost time for Santa to arrive and he hadn't yet hung up his stocking. It really wasn't Jerry's own stocking. One of his would have been much too small for a whole swiss cheese. So he borrowed a sock from a young boy called - Jimmy one night when everyone was asleep. He brought it home huffing and puffing over the job because the stocking was as big to him as your livingroom rug is to you. He had even pulled out a few of his own hairs, |tied them together and darned all of the holes in the stocking. Well, now Jerry i | being a very neat mouse took iit out of his closet and carefully brushed it off.He wrapped it carefully into a small bundle which could be carried on his shoulders and back. Jerry peeped out of his door to make sure Tom the cat wasn't around. The room was dark except for the moonlight streaming throu- gh the window. Tom didn't seem to be around so he snook across the room and hung up his stocking. Tom however had been hiding behind the phonagraph all the time and suddenly pounced out at Jerry. Jerry ran around the room but his little legs were short and Tom was gaining on him suddenly Jerry spied the great grandfather clock. Its doors were open and just as Tom was about to grab Jerry, with a huge leap Jerry jumped inside of the clock. Tom shut the door on him and started to wind the clock. It was only a minute 'Meanwhile Jerry stumbled around inside the clock. He tripped, fell and the dust made him sneeze. He kept searching until finally he found a hole just big enough for him to squeeze through. Once outside of the clock Jerry tiptoed around the corner to watch Tom. Tom had his ear up to the clock listening for noises. Of course he did not hear any- thing so began to get curious. Soon he opened the door only a crack and not finding Jerry he stuck his head in, then his shoulders and finally all the way in. Jerry shut the door on him just as the chimes began to ring. Tom yelled for Jerry to let him out over and over again. But Jerry just went across - the room and into the kitchen. In the kitchen Jerry made Santa a nice big turkey sandwich. Jerry broke a glass, dropped a fork and broke another glass while dragging it into the living room.It got a little dusty on the way but Jerry carefully brushed - it until it looked about new. Meanwhile Tom was still screaming for Jerry to let him out. Jerry made him promise he would be good, at least until Christmas was over. Jerry opened the door and Tom fell flat on his face. Tom was about to grab Jerry when Jerry reminded him of his promise,"Now remember Tom if your not good Santa won't bring you anything." Well that word of wisdom |/* stopped Tom right in his tracks. Jerry took Tom over to the living room table and show- ed him the turkey sandwich. Tom started to drool, he'd like to eat that sandwich himself. "What if Jerry thinks I'm Santa Claus," Tom thought. He trotted off to his bed- room. In a few minutes Tom looked. himself over care- chimmey and slid down the chimmey until...he was caught. He started scream- ing just as he had in the clock. Jerry saw soot falling into the fireplace. When the mist had cleared he saw Tom's tail hanging out of the chimney. Jerry tugged at Tom's tail as hard as possible. After that he tried using the chimney brush but Tom screeched that Jerry was scraping 'off all of his hair, Jerry thought for a minute. Hot air rises and will take Tom back up the chimney. Jerry put some wood, paper and a couple chunks of coal in the fire- place. He was just about to light the match when suddenly he heard sleigh bells. _ "Yipee! Santa Claus' Jerry yelled happily. "What's wrong here?" Santa asked but he already knew because Santa knows everything. He reached up into the chimney and gave a huge tug and Tom came down he looks so funny with his cotton beard hanging from one whisker that Santa couldn't help but laugh. " "Tom, I forgive you. Christmas is a time when everybody should be happy," Santa said. __He reached into his pack and pulled out a can of sardines for Tom and a swiss cheese that was even to big for the stocking. Jerry had hung up.Well, Tom and Jerry thanked him for. their gifts and flicking some soot off the sandwich offered it to Santa. Santa eyed it for a minute then plopped down right in between Tom and Jerry. Tom opened his sardines, Jerry chewed on his cheese and Santa munched away at his turkey sandwich. That's the story of when Tom and Jerry met Santa Claus. Pat Elson Greenbank P.S. Es: % May the joys of this. Christmas season rekindle cherished memories, and-fill your heart with great happiness. W.
