PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. December 23, 1981 -- 23 Winners in the Star's colouring contest si » . ld nu i To 4 Hazelwood, 10 years of R.R. 5, Sunderland. The Star would like to thank all the children that entered this year and invite them to try again next year. Merry Christmas to all. Cartwright High School news pretty little Leanne Goslin, 32 of Port Perry was the winner [left]. In the group from 5 to 7 years the winner was Monika Franssen, 5, of Port Perry and the winner in the 8 to 10 year category was Krista . The Port Perry Star received about 100 entries into their annual colouring contest this year and the three young ladies pictured here were the winners. In the age group of kids up to the age of four years, Gingerbread Christmas (From page 15) which is grown in their own garden, is popped and strung by the family. It is then hung around windows and door- ways along with cedar rope to give a look to Christmas unlike anything most of have experienced. : Since the Price's are antique and folk art collec- tors it was not surprising to find that some of their decor- ations dated back a hundred years or so. In the front hall a minia- ture Christmas dinner is taking place by a family of mice. The furniture that they are sitting at is constructed of cast iron and dates to the turn of the century, while food, and plates on the table were made by the Prices from clay. The little toy mice are completely dressed in clothing and were purchased in the U.S.A. On the mantel, above the fireplace is a nineteenth century toy. Mrs. Price explained that the replica of Noah's Ark was a toy that children were allowed to play with on Sundays only. This piece was purchased at an antique show twelve years ago and since that time it has had a place of honour above the fireplace each year. Christmas in the Price home has become a tra- dition. "We started out doing a lot of these things for the kids, and now that they are grown we continue because it wouldn't seem like Christmas without all of the decoration." "It's a matter of taking the time,"' Mrs. Price concluded.
