The team showed come- back ability and also showed that they must keep playing hard if they want to keep the lead. Dunbarton vs Port Perry The' Port Perry High school boys basketball teams hosted the tough Dunbarton squads last Tuesday Jan- uary 12. Both the Seniors and Midgets came away with well deserved victories. In the second period Port sustained their lead. and chalked up 23 points on the score board to Dunbarton's 14. The second half was Dun- barton revenge. Port saw their lead dwindle to 32 - 29 in the third quarter.. In the fourth period Port looked to play clutch basket- ball. Todd Wilbur and Scott Wallace made field goals as Kevin Harris and Pete Stone swished foul shots. The score looked in Port's favour as Harris put in 2 foul shots to give the team a five point lead with a minute remain- ing. Dunbarton had not been in front nor tied at any point during the game except for the final two seconds in the fourth period. The game went into overtime and Port would not 1€t their hopes die down. Did the boys have - enough to come back and get their first win of the regular season? Yes. The game ended Port 52. Dunbarton 48. Pete Sone led the way by scoring 15 points. Todd Wilbur scored 12 points in the - win as Scott Wallace hooped in 9 points. Pete Christie popped in 6 points. Kevin Harris, Paul Van Camp banked in 4 points each as John Butler chalked up a basket. Junior Unfortunately the junior Rebels were not as fortunate as they lost to Dunbarton. The game was tough throughout the entire 'con- test. Dunbarton lead by 3 at * the end of one period 15 - 12. Port grabbed the lead back at half time 29 - 28. Dun- barton opened the game up in the third and regained the lead by a score of 44 - 35. Port fought back galantly but fell short 52 - 47. Richard Alsoop played a great game and led Port with 19 points. , Rob Burnett swished 14 points in the losing cause. Dean Stone and Jamie Lane popped in 4 and 3 points respectively. Mark Phillips, Ken Elliott 4nd Stan Glass scored a basket each to end Midget The midget teams looked very closely matched in the first quarter as they played to a 10 - 10 tie. Port Perry showed their strength in rebounding in the second quarter as they came away with a 20 to 12 half time lead. The remainder of the contest was fast moving but few baskets were scored. Port defeated Dunbarton 31 - 26. } - Darryl Mussleman was top point getter with 12 points. Vaughan McKee banked in 11 points as Mark Butler and Sam McCreight shot in ¢ points each Novices win 3 The J. T. Pearce Auction- eers flogged the Pickering "A" team 11 - 0, on Wed- nesday, Jan. 6. The boys played a very scrambly game but he Pickering team just coul compete. The on started only ten seconds into the first period when Greg Fitzgerald grabbed the open- ing face-off and broke through the Pickering players to beat the goalie in the corner. Mike Feasby out skated and out manoeuved the Pickering players to come up with the second goal with the assist to Steve Stani- land. Mike came back with the next goal on an assist from Ian Robertson. On a good passing play by Scott Menzies and Mike Feasby, Steve Staniland standing all alone in front of the net, hit the mark. The score at the end of the first period went to 5 - 0 when Mark Andrews scored off a rebound shot by Jan Heyes. In the second period Mike Feasby recorded his hat trick when he deaked the goalie who came way out of his net to stop the shot. The assists by Steve Staniland and Scott Menzies. Jim Heyes scored with a corner shot assists to Mark Andrews and Jason Cochrane. Pearce Auctioneers won their first game against the hard hitting team from Stouffville. Stouffville had not lost a season game prior to this. Both teams came out hard and fast and the first period neither team had an advantage. Port got on the board 20 seconds into the second period on a break- away pass from Greg Fitz- gerald, Jeff Parry found the corner pocket. The team spirit rose, and when Stouff- ville went down a man on a tripping penalty, Mike Feasby took the opportunity to blast one: past: the: goalie. The assist 'went to Steve Staniland. In the final period Mike Feasby scored on a flip shot sent from just over the blue line. The assists were to Danny Sluggett and Scott Menzies. Noel Lovering came up with some beautiful saves while in net, and what an excited team at the end of the game. On Sunday, Jan. 10, the Auctioneers travelled to Ux- bridge to play a hard fought game against the Uxbridge . Novice Team. Uxbridges Jason Horton scored the only 'goal for the team in the second period when Ports goaltender Noel Lovering went down for a shot made by Bret Meyers and Jason standing right in front of the net picked up the loose puck. Port scored its first goal in the third period on a good passing play by Jan Heyes to Mark Andrews, who poked it between the goalies legs.
