January 20, 1982 ERY Eh 20 os PAN Prince Albert and area news by Earline Armstrong Thursday evening January 7th was euchre night once again at Prince Albert Hall, fourteen tables were filled and ladies high went to Ruby Birkett, second was Mary Williamson and low Pearl Gostick. On the men's side high was Carl Gimblett, second Bessie Spencer and low Jim Gibson. Doors will be open again at the hall on Thursday, January 14th, proving the roads are -- hope to see you there. } Helen, Jack Holtby on Quaker Road opened their doors to Les and Grace Bea- cock, and Grant and Ethel Franklin from Brooklin last Thursday to dine with them for supper. The Couples Club are going to gather at Prince Albert Hall on Saturday, January 16th at 8 o'clock for a night of "Court Whisk", sounds like good clean fun. On Tuesday, December 29th, it was Florence Smith's birthday, so daughter Marion Leslie from Sea- grave invited Florence and Ben to come up for supper, which they did. Upon arrival they were greeted by their daughter Shirley Garvey from North Carolina who had flown up the Sunday before just for the occasion. Shirley spend a couple of nights in the area visiting before returning home on New Year's Eve. Happy Birthday Florence. On Wednesday, December 30th, Charlie and Walter Mediator appointed for contract talks A mediator has been appointed to assist contract negotiations between the trustees and teachers of the Durham Region Catholic School Board. The appointment of Norman Bernstein of Ottawa was announced last week by the Ontario Education Rela-" tions Commission. Mr. Bernstein is a former teacher, vice president of the Montreal Teachers Associa- tion and an executive assist- ant; for the provincial Asso- ciation of Protestant Teachers. He served five years as a member of the Canada Labour Relations Board in Ottawa, and presently is a member of the Ontario Public Service Grievance Board. He has been a mediator in several recent contract negotiations with separate and public school boards at the elementary and secon- dary level across Ontario. Webb from Haliburton called on Ben and Florence and had a visit with Shirley too. Mr. and Mrs. L. Devitt from Oshawa were supper guests Wednesday night with Les and Grace Beacock. Little Sara McGregor from Braeside Ontario spent the week with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pereman, and cousins Andrew and Melissa. Mom, Dad, Ann and Jim McGregor just returned Saturday even- ing from a vacation in Porto Rico. Allen Martyn celebrated his 39th birthday on Sunday, January 10th. Helping Allen put away the goodies were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wanna- maker from Seagrave, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Martyn from Prince Albert and of course his good wife Beth.
