-- 4 J 1 i J J | by Dave Dalton This past weekend three teams from Port Perry played a tournament in the town of Lefroy. Of the three teams involved one came home a winner, and of the remaining two, one was a ladies team. First the ladies: The Port Perry Oilers have just 2 rted playing organized mball in the Oshawa Br League and what they lack in knowledge and performance is made up with a lot of enthusiasm and spirit. On Friday night they played L&M Auto Body of the Simcoe League and came up on the wrong end of a 5-1 score. The score wasn't really indicative of the play as the Port girls had a couple of good chances themselves. With thé score 2-0 for L&M Joan Dalton assisted on a goal by Kelly St. John to put Port back within reach. But it was all for not as L&M put three more in. In the second game played Sat. afternoon the girls were matched against. the Blue Bombers of their own league. The Bombers came out flying against Port, who were caught a little flat- footed in this encounter. The Oilers had several good scoring chances as Janis St. John and Gina Brinkman tested the Bomber goalie who came through with excellent saves. The valiant ladies were defeated by a 5-0 score this game to send them on their way home. Better luck next time girls! Beacock"s Hardware pulled off a minor upset Friday night as with nine players they squeaked past Pauleyanna Sports by a 2-1 score. Beacock's pulled ahead to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Cordell Kuenings from Terry Black and David Dalton from Eldon Wagg. Kuening's goal was during one of three power plays for Beacock's. Blackstock had one penalty early in the first which they killed off. Pauleyanna's goal came with 6:00 minutes to play and that was all the offense they could muster. This win gave Beacock's a bye through to the quarter finals where they played eventual finalists Simcoe Eagles. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first period on two power play goals. Beacock's started coming back in the second but couldn't put the ball in the net as they came up against a hot goaltender. In the dying minutes, Bea- cock's pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and it paid off as Ron Short scored from Tom Wotten. That was the only one they got as they went home 2-1 losers. C&B Livestock was the third Port team to attend the tournament and came home Sunday "B" Division winner. Early Sat. morning with nine players they went up against their arch-rivals Brookdale Rangers and came out with an 8-0 loss. In their second game line changes came easy as they played Air Canada with just six men this time. Playing smartly they built up a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes and sat back for the remain- der of the game to win by that score. Rob Evans who ~was their top scorer through the tournament assisted on both goals by Ken Fraser and Bruce Woodrow. y A god RA nk 1 ana 2, LA RA athe ah x YENI SA ra 23 Se at gl Three local broomball teams compete in Lefroy tourney Saturday night the rein- forcements arrived as they ~ now had seven players to put up against the Filling Station. They again won by a 2-0 score to give them a bye into the Consolation final. Rob Evans scored the first goal on an unassisted per- formance and then assisted on Bruce Woodrow's game winner. In the final against Orangeville C&B came up with their third straight 2-0 win to capture the "B' Divi- sion title. Woodrow and Evans both figured on goals here as Woodrow scored the first from Ken Fraser and Evans assisted Ron Redman on the final. Motorcycle races on Lake Scugog The following are the results of the motorcycle races held January 31, at Kent's Bay on Lake Scugog. Despite the very nasty weather, organizers say they were pleased with the day's events staged by the Oshawa Competition Motorcycle Club, and there is a good chance races will be held on the ice again next year. We came home on the winn- ing end of a 3 - 0 game. The girls all played an excellent game and certainly dominated the play. Jen Pelow earned the shut-out and made some nice saves. Misty Andrews opened the scoring with the assist going Tweens lose to Oshawa 'by Jeannie Muir On Sunday Feb. 7th the Chris Allen Aluminium Tweens travelled to Oshawa to play the Oshawa "A" Tween Team. We had only 9 girls playing for Chris Allen Tweens, _ against a very strong Oshawa team, but our girls all played a real good game. Natalie Franssen scored the first goal assisted by Lesley Biffin. Heidi Meisner scored twice assisted by Dawn Park, Bobbie Jo Heaps and Lesley again. The game was very close until midway through the third period when Oshawa got three quick goals. The final score was 7-3 for Oshawa but our Chris Allen Tweens should all be proud of how well they played. Heather did a fine job in net. [5252525265 [plrle ow wwe eles oes eeeeeneeeee ee: to Melissa Moehring. A nice shot Misty! Val White and Michelle Beare each scored a goal, both of which were unassisted. Although the score sheet read 3 - 0, we are sure that Jessica Fluke and Michelle Beare each scored a goal. The girls certainly deserve this win as they have been playing very well lately. Keep up the good work girls. On Sun. Feb. 7, 1982 the Bruton"s I1.D.A. petites travelled to Harman Park in Oshawa to play the Oshawa Finch Travellers. Port was successful in bringing home a 5 - 3 win. All of the girls played and skated well in a good end to end game. Jenny Blanchard opened the scoring followed by Kim Loudfoot with a hat trick. Nicole Beare got an assist on one of Kim's goals, A nice pass Nicky! Cragylegs Call- oway scored our last goal. Jen played a good game between the pipes and made some good saves. Our next games will be play-off games. Come out and cheer on these girls. They deserve it. INSTANT PASSPORT PHOTOS Ready while you wait.
