TS -- SRI: resent Speedy convalescence to Mrs. Frank Glasbergen who underwent major surgery in Peterborough Civic Hospital on Thurs. of this week. Like- wise to Brian Wilson in Ross Memorial Hospital who had surgery this week to correct a back problem. Glad to report Mr. Elmo Gray who spent a few days recently in hospital has been released and is "on the road again" so to speak. Our community was represented at the 25th Wedding Anniversary party tendered Mr. and Mrs. Joe Staples of Lifford on Sat. evening at the Manvers Community Centre. The Staples were the recipients of a chesterfield set and a TV set from their friends assembled. A number from our community attended the annual meeting of the Victoria County Pork Pro- ducers in Fenelon Twsp. Community Centre at Cam- bray on Sat. evening Jan. 30th. Following a delicious roast pork dinner efficiently served, Chairman Jim Brown presided at the bus- iness session of the meeting following welcoming remarks. Mr. Mark Leahy presided in the elections of Directors that followed with the following results. Messrs. Howard Malcolm, Ron Pearson, Jim Brown and Les Davidson are currently completing the second half of their two year term. Hugh Steele was elected to rep- Eldon, Charles Gilmour - Fenelon re-elected. Allan McKeown re-elected for Mariposa, Stephen Quibell elected for Verulam, Gordon Lawder re- elected for Emily, Floyd Stenson re-elected for Manvers, and Brian Dickin- son forOps. The two direc- tors at large were elected as follows: Ed Bagshaw and Vern Brian. Mr. Howard Malcolm and Mr. Ted Jensen each spoke briefly and brought greetings from the Ontario Pork Producers Board. Mr. Ed Bagshaw spoke on the Farm Labour Pool on which he represented the Victoria Board. Door prizes were won by Allan Trent and Allan McKeown. A most enjoyable evening was concluded by a dance to the Wildwoods. Mrs. Marti Malcolm attended his great Aunt Hilda's funeral in Toronto this week. Miss Candy Malcolm and her 'employer Mr. John Procter of Toronto were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm. In the "What's this world coming to dept." - a Yelver- ton resident living on 7A Highway went out to shovel out his driveway this week- end only to find that both of the shovels reclining on the porch had been stolen during his absence during the day. Must have taken one for his wife as well. Miss Lana Malcolm and Miss Janet Vivian left last week to spend 3 months in Quebec as exchange students with that province. They will be staying with the girl's family that were here from Quebec for the fall semester and attended school at I.E. Weldon. Should be quite an experience. Yelverton area news Sympathy is extended to husband Bert, daughter Lois (Adams) and son Gary and their families in the passing of a loving wife and mother in person of Mrs. Elva McMullen of Janetville this week. Another daughter Joyce Malcolm predeceased her mother two years ago December. Mr. Brian Wilson has returned home from Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, where he had a disk removed from his back to correct a painful back condi- tion. All join in wishing Brian a speedy recovery. Brooklin Horticultural Society by Margaret Beath The Brooklin Horticultural Society held its first meeting of the year on January 27 and those in attendance agreed it was a sure cure for the winter blues. President Lyla Allan opened the meeting and the National Anthem was sung. Secretary Joan Brak read the minutes of the last meeting. Joan then introduced the speaker for the evening.
