I -------- SG Srl BN : Ts ' STAIR BE SHA ARCHOS ATS A PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. March 3, 1982 -- 13 One final set in broomball playdowns by Dave Dalton One semifinal series came to an end as C&B beat Brians by a 3-1 score, and the other series is even at one apiece as Utica downed Beacocks 2-0 this past Sunday. After a 3-0 loss the week before Utica came back with a strong effort to take the 2-0 win and tie the series. They applied great pressure in the Beacock end throughout most of the first period as it took Blackstock over 8:00 to get out of their own end and get a shot on the Utica net. Both Don Card and Rick McLean came up with some fine saves through the first half of the game as it wasn't until the 7:43 mark of the middle frame before the score board was lit. Murray Down netted the marker from brother Chester to give Utica the lead at this point. Just over 6:00 later these two players again clicked as Murray flipped a shot high into the Beacock net on a breakaway to finish the scoring. The third period saw chances by both sides as a rash of penalties gave one side or the other a power play off and on and a lot of open ice to run on. C&B finished off Brians with a little tougher time after beating them 5-0 last week. Again this week Rob Evans and Aldon Smith were the major offense for C&B as they tallied a goal and assist each. As in the first game of the day the first period and part of the second had elapsed before Mark Lee assisted by Smith put C&B ahead. I was short lived as Brians came back before the end of the period to tieitona power play goal by Ken St. Amant from Finley Peeters. With 9:00 to go Rob Evans set up"Aldon Smith for the eventual game winner. The icing on the cake was applied when Evans potted the final from Ron Redman. Brians couldn't amount any offense late in the game as they found themselves short handed most of the last 5:00 minutes due to a pile of minor infractions. As for the Muskies, they should take the series with Port Hope and go on to give the league champion Bowmanville Eagles a run for the money in the series final. McKEE AUTO AUCTION RE-OPENING SAT.
