NE by Paul Pelow On Sat. Feb. 27, Bruton's I1.D.A. Petites met Ajax Shoppers Drug Mart in a playoff game. The local girls, playing one of their best games of the season defeated Ajax 6 to 3. Brutons took the lead in the first period on goals by Heather Lawrence assisted by Jenny Blanchard and Jessica Fluke and the second one scored by Jenny Blan- chard assisted by Karyn Biffin. Ajax came back and tied the game at two by the end of the first period. Ajax took the lead in the second period by scoring early. In the third period eveyone worked hard to protect the lead. Kim Loudfoot scored two more goals to produce the 6 to 3 win. The girls playing defense in this game were just as much responsible for this win as they constantly stopped Ajax with their tenacious check- ing. Hope Club wins Snow derby' Last Saturday Feb. 27th, the boys of the Hope Christian Reformed Church Cadet Club of Port' Perry participated in the annual Pine Ridge Council snow sports derby. The Cadets of Hope No. 820 competed against boys from Cadet Clubs of Bowmanville, Lind- say, Peterborough, Oshawa and Whitby in Bethany and the oldest boys Mark deWolde, John Hoekstra, David Wonder, Wayne Buller and Kevin Pypker took the 2nd place trophy in the 'A' group. Also the Cadre of, John Fennema, Rod de Wolde, Jeff Pypker and Jan Wester- man won a 2nd place trophy in the 'B' group. The youngest cadre also did well and so the Hope Club won the overall "Snow Derby" challenge trophy for the first time. The trophy for most medals was won again this year by Oshawa. Port Perry results were: Juvenile Girls: Tracy Dowson- 1st (gold medal); Tawni Newman- 7th; Andrea Calloway- 11th. Juvenile Boys: Akkerman- 4th; Gibson- 6th. i Bronze Interpretive: Kim Dowson- 2nd (silver medal); Tracy Murray- 4th; Kim David Kevin Roane- 5th. Our thanks to Eleanor for her donation of flowers for all competitors. Atoms dump Uxbridge to lead series The Malmont Farm Atoms defeated Uxbridge 5-2 in the first game of playoff action. From the opening face-off Port appeared very strong and confident, although unable to score in the first seven minutes, they maintained control of the play. An unassisted goal by Mike Sorley at the 7:43 mark gave Port a slim 1-0 lead. A minor and major penalty seen The Green Machines have to play two men short at the beginning of the second period, but it was not - until dying seconds of the major that Uxbridge capital- ized to even the score, after excellent penalty killing. It took Port only 1:29 to score three unanswered goals, taking a 4-1 lead at the end of two periods. Mike Sorley got his second goal from Paul Wylie, Jeff Mills popped in the next two with Todd Heyes, Eric Grosvenor and Jarett Harman each with assists. Uxbridge got their second goal in the third, but keeping the pressure on Jarett Harman picked up the final marker from Paul Wylie and Eric Grosvenor. Chris and Ryan sharing the goal tending duties, played another strong game. The second game was played Mon, Mar. 1st at 7:30 in Port Perry, with the third game again in Port Perry on Fri.
