The 14th Annual Mixed Invitational Bonspiel sponsored by Brooklin Concrete Products was held Saturday at the Port Perry Curling Club. Bill Cane's Local sorority plans lots of new activities The coming of the New Year has once again found the members of Beta Sigma Phi (Theta Delta Chapter) hard at work. A get acquainted evening' was planned Feb. 10th at the home of Reta Bonnetta, Prince Albert. This event was-to familiarize invited guests with the * activities of the sorority. A humorous skit was presented by the sisters of XI Epsilon Theta Chapter, explaining all the customs of sorority life. The evening was a huge success with many new members joining the group. A Beta Sigma Phi dance has been planned for the end of the month (Feb. 27). A special event to take place at this dance will be a cake auction. Homemade cakes of various shapes and sizes will be given out to the highest bidding groups. The pro- ceeds will go to Central Seven, in the aid of purchasing a wheelchair lift for the new van. Robert Jackson will be chief auctioneer for the evening and a good time is antici- pated by all. Tickets for this dance may be obtained at the Settlement House. Begun in the midst of the . depression, Beta Sigma Phi was originally designed to provide an outlet for women, who, in those hard financial times, could not attend college and were obliged to remain home and ~ support their families. From the first chapter formed in Abilene Kansas, - Beta Sigma Phi has grown from a small social and cultural group into an inter- national sorority that devotes much time to service efforst as' well. Hardly a charitable, health or cultural group, exists today that has not been helped in some way by Beta Sigma Phi. Of course, cultural and social activities still continue among the chapters. Each year members are provided with a different outline of study in the liberal arts. Members also plan socials throughout the year, including: Traditional events like Founder's Day.
