March 3, 1982 Councillors make claims for travel, convention expenses Figures released last week by the Durham Region finance department show that Scugog Mayor Jerry * Taylor claimed mileage expenses in 1981 of $547. Scugog regional councillor Lawrence Malcolm claimed $760 for mileage as well as $433 for convention and con- ference expenses. Each of the Region's 30 councillors is allowed to spend a maximum of $500 yearly while attending con- ferences or conventions, and all councillors are allowed to claim mileage for use of their own cars on Regional business. Brock Township mayor Al McPhail who lives farther from the Regional head- quarters and departments in Oshawa than any other councillor had the highest claim of $1392. Newcastle councillor Diane Hamre claimed $820 for mileage.
