March 10, 1982 et RS pe a or port Snowmobilers enjoy trail ride and camp cook-out by Bill Lock Superb weather on Sunday encouraged a good turnout for a Port Perry Snowmobile Club trail ride and cook out. About 75 machines with their riders registered for the event. The good condition of the trails, and Spring like snow conditions, made the ride pure pleasure indeed. Riders were welcomed into the cookout location by a cheery campfire blazing under the huge spreading boughs of mature pines, and hot food and drinks were enjoyed with a friendly get together. Prizes for the ride winners were: "T. J." Adams, Joshua Lackey, Peter Ring, Brian Simmons, Bill Johnson, Roy Burke, Jim Lackey, Charlie Harper, Jim Adams. Special Events Chairman Bruce Luke along with his helpers once again deserve our vote of thanks. In other Club news, about 18 Club riders enjoyed a weekend away to Bancroft the previous weekend. Bare roads in the town area and some rough trails tested endurance and patience; however, riding in this picturesque area is a feast for the eyes. Our with sauna and whirlpool, and good food at day's end, sure hit the spot. A Club General Meeting will take place next Sunday March 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse. This will be an important meeting with many pressing issues to be discussed. Our trail system is receiving so much use this year that it is difficult to maintain them in good condition. We are looking for ways and means to reach and include those people who use our trails and contribute nothing towards them. More grooming equipment is need- were donated, and the accomodation, complete Port Pee Wee A's in tough battle with Picton ed and a more far reaching program of trail maintain- ance has to be evolved. It is through the local snow- mobile Club that the trails we need are provided and maintained. Please join and support a Club. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Convention takes place next month and our delegation is being prepared. The warm Spring days Foi re es So A et a x "aden ge A Sains SGT Sarees Tournament champions The Centennial Lanes Couples Tournament finished last Sunday with the winners scoring 4,317 over the three weeks with their handicap. The Champs, in a pl - Cet A ri TAY { 2 Wo A ] On Sunday, March 7th, Port Perry Pee Wee As travelled to Picton for their third game of their best of five series. Port came home defeated by a score of 5-3 even though they played well. This gives Picton 2 wins to Ports 1. It was a very close game and could have gone either way until late in the third period. After the first period it was tied at one goal apiece. Scoring for Port was John Lally from Dave Burnett and Bob Goble. At the end of the second Port was down by one goal as the score was 3-2. Scoring for Port was Warren Geer from Dave Burnett. In the third period Picton scored two unanswered goals and with very close checking were able to keep Port off the score board until the last minute of the game when Dave Burnett drove one home, assisted by Bob Goble and Rob Baker. The fourth game in this series is back in Port on Mar. 12 at 9 o'clock. Please come out and cheer our boys on. Pour it on Port. - The Cartwright High School senior boys basket- ball team advanced to the COSSA final in the single A division Friday in Newcastle, and came up against a very strong squad from Cobourg which won the game 93-29. The Cartwright boys won the LOSSA finals Feb. COSSA finalists with lots of snow are here this year. Enjoy your riding while it lasts. Two goals were scored in each period, Clair Cornish started Port off on their first of six goals, on a pass from Daryl Leatherdale and Jarrett Harman scored the next three, picking up his hat trick, assists went to Jeff Mills with two, . Eric Grosvenor with three and Derek Fitzgerald with one. An unassisted goal by Mike Sorley put The Green Machines up by five. Eric Grosvenor was in the slot for the final marker on a re- bound shot from Jeff Mills, Danny Maw also earned an assist. Sun. Mar. 7th, The Mal- mont Farm Atoms eliminated Uxbridge from playoff action by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Uxbridge came out flying and took command .of all three periods. A total of seven penalties were handed out, four to Uxbridge and Port picking up three. Uxbridge went ahead 1-0 after only one minute and £5 seconds into the game, they held this slim lead until the 4:56 mark of the second period, when Mike Sorley assisted by Todd Heyes finally tied it a 1-1. Port got the go ahead goal at 5:18 mark of the third period from Daryl Leatherdale assisted by Paul Wylie, Uxbridge not relenting again tied the game, forcing an overtime period. Clair Cornish with only 50 seconds remaining in overtime scored the winning goal from Paul Wylie and Mike Sorley. The Green Machines will now advance to the semi- final round against Lake- field. At press time it is uncertain when the first game will be played. Petites lose 5-2 by Marg Pelow On Mon. Feb. 21, 1981, the Bruton's--1.D.A. - Petites travelled to Pickering Village to meet the Ajax 'B' Lions in our first play-off game. We came home on the losing side of a 5-2 game. Scoring for Port were Michelle Beare from Kerri Allen and Jenny Blanchard, from Laura Edwards and Kelly Calloway. The girls all played well, but met with several penalties which seemed to fluster them. Jessica played a good game between the pipes. Hope to see Kim and Jennifer back in the line-up for our next game.
