Asks council to change by-law Angered trucker wants to park cab in his driveway overnight Prince Albert trucker Bob Greenwood told council Monday afternoon that zoning by-laws should be amended to allow owners to park their truck cabs over- night at their homes. Mr. Greenwood, \of Queen Street, Prince Albert, has been taken to court twice in the past six months by the Township for parking his $60,000 truck cab in his drive- way, and he has been issued with three summons to again appear in court March 16 on similar charges. "I feel I'm being harassed. My truck is my livelihood," he told council. He said he never parks the trailer, just the cab, in his driveway, and did this for eight years without any problems. But a couple of years ago, he had a run in with a neighbour who complained to the Township about the truck parked overnight in the driveway. The neighbour asked the Township to enforce the by- law, and the first time in court last summer, Mr. Greenwood pleaded guilty and paid a $25 fine. He decided to fight the second summons, but was found guilty in Justice of the Peace court in January and paid a $58 fine. On February 10, he was warned by the Township . solicitor that unless he removed his cab from the driveway, the Township would again take him to court and seek the maximum fine of $300, and also would ask the court to assess him the Township's legal costs. Mr. Greenwood told the Star after the meeting he feels he has no choice but to fight, the charges in court March 16. But he said he will demand that the Township begin to prosecute others who park trucks, including half-tons, in their driveways over night. "This is the only way that I can get support to have the by-law changed to allow trucks to be parked over- night," he said. He says there are six other tractor cabs being parked overnight in Prince Albert alone, and some 38 half tons, which he claims are not permitted by the by-law either. Library budget (From page 6) He said there are plans to hold a gala affair May 29, with invitations being sent out to provincial cabinet ministers and Premier William Davis. He said the cost for this official opening could be as Port Perry Star ADVERTISING DEADLINE ALL ADVERTISING: much as $2000, with the. Friends of the Library committee agreeing to pay half that amount. As far as construction on the building is concerned, the Library Board is now waiting for the first install- ment of the Wintario grant, and this is expected in the next couple of weeks. Scugog council agreed last year to bridge finance until the Wintario funds are re- leased, and Mr. Preston told council the Board is hopeful this amount would be $50,000 for a six week period only. He says that with an investment of $60,000 tied up in his truck cab, he wants to park it in his driveway for security. He fears the truck would be vandalized or even stolen if he parked it in a yard or compound else- where. He says his lawyers fees will run to several hundred dollars, and he knows he is facing fines if convicted again on March 16. But he says he has been put in the position where he has no choice. And he says he's adament that if the Township can be forced to prosecute him, he will force the Township to start prose- cuting others. "It's either that, or have the council change the by- laws," he said.
