Our first game was at 9:00 p.m. Friday night. The girls started the weekend off with a bang and a 6-4 victory over Ajax. Our second game was Sat- urday morning at 10:00 a.m. when the Sportsland Juniors met up against the hosting team, Warkworth. Wark- worth took a two goal lead early in the game then our Juniors came back and scored a goal. They tried their best but were not able to take the lead. The final score was 6-4 for Warkworth. Then at 5:00 p.m. that afternoon, we played against the Ajax team again. This game was so exciting that the spectators and 'coaches were on the edge of their seats the whole game. With a scoreless tie in the first period, it all broke loose in the second. We took turns scoring a goal with Ajax with a tie again of 8-8 at the end of the regular game. This took us into a 5 minute overtime 'period and Ajax was able to score again, but Port Perry just couldn't pull it out, losing by 1 goal. The girls played an excellent exciting game. Our next game was played on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when we met up with Warkworth again. This game was very important to both teams as it meant the victor would go into the championship game against Ajax. Warkworth took a two goal lead but our Sportsland Juniors came back with 3 goals in the short time of a minute and a half. But Wark- worth managed to tie it up before the end of the first period. The second. period started well with our girls' scoring a goal to take the lead again, then Warkworth tied it again, With 5 minutes left in the game, our Sports- land Juniors scored the winning goal to make the final score 5-4. Then onto the final game for the Championship against Ajax whom we had beaten in one game.and had lost one game. At the end of the first period each team had one goal. Get your bike set for spring With the advent of spring and warmer weather, old and young enthusiasts will be thinking of getting out the bicycle. The Ontario Safety League suggests a few pre- liminary steps you should take to insure your bike is safe. Ride a bicycle that fits you. The size of your bike affects your ability to reach and use the steering, pedals and braking controls. You should be able to reach the ground comfortably with the ball of your foot while sitting upright on the seat. Check the tires for wear and tear. Also check the wheel spokes, chain, and your lighting and horn systems. Make sure the bike is well oiled, and get down to: the nuts and bolts of things, tightening any loose nuts where necessary. Before taking the bike onto the street, check the braking ability of your machine on both wet and dry surfaces. Your bicycle should also be in good alignment. If the bike veers to one side when pushed forward, it is out of line and needs adjustment. Remember that the bi- cyclist is considered under the law to be a driver and as such traffic rules, regula- tions, signs and signals apply just the same as to the cyclist as to the motorist. The Ontario Safety League reminds you that you're one of the smallest units on the road and it's not always easy for motorists to see you. Use reflective tape as required by law, reflectors and wear light coloured clothing at night. os
