On Saturday, April 10, Lloyd and Beth Pereman opened their home for a surprise birthday party for Terry Hodgins who celebrat- ed another one on April 8. Terry's children, Kevin and Heather were there along with 22 others, but his wife Eileen was not, she was home trying to throw a very bad cough. We all hope you are feeling better Eileen and not barking up the wrong tree. Brenda Armstrong from Stirling, Ont. and Rick Roblyn from Belleville visit- ed the Bill Armstrongs on Friday night. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brooks were in attend- ance at the West Rouge Community Centre for a birthday and retirement party for a good friend of - theirs, Mr. Walter Sparling. The president opened the meeting with all repeating the Auxiliary prayer in unison. Minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary and approved. Our Spring Fair for May 1st was further discussed, and we hope to see all you ladies there. Hope to see you all again at our May 17th meeting. Dance to aid Polish people The Parish of Immaculate Conception Church in Port Perry will be holding a benefit dance this Saturday, May 1, with all proceeds going to help people of Poland who are in economic need since martial law was imposed. The Parish recreation committee organized this benefit dance following a suggestion from a member of the church. Benefits from the dance will be forwarded to Poland through the Archdiocese office. The dance will be held in -the Church hall starting at 8 o'clock this Saturday. There will be door prizes, refresh- ments, a buffet and music by D.J. Len Franssen. Tickets are $6 per person. Family tree group to meet The third meeting of the newly formed Whitby Oshawa Genealogical Society will take place on Tuesday, May 4th 7 - 9 P.M. in the auditorium of the Whitby Public Library. This Club has been formed to bring together beginners, experienced amateurs and professionals with a common interest in tracing their family tree to exchange information and aid members with ancestry problems. Choir in National finals The twelfth of May is approaching fast, and time is running short for Port High's Jazz Choir and Fusion Band. These two: Jazz ensembles will be travelling to Hamilton to compete in the National Finals. To raise funds to help send these groups to Hamilton, there will be a Euchre Nite held at Port Perry High School on May 5, at 7:30 p.m. .. The .award winning Port High Jazz. Choir will enter- tain, and 'there will be refreshments and prizes. Tickets are: available at the main office of Port Perry High School, or at Irwin Smith Music Ltd. in down- town Port Perry. See you Wednesday, May 5, 7:30 at P.P.H.S.! Brooklin Horticulture meet The April meeting' of the Brooklin Horticultural Society will take place at 8:00 April 28, at the C.E. Building, Brooklin United Church. The first flower show of the year, a beautiful springtime daffodil show, will be the highlight of the meeting. The show will also feature house- plants and African Violets. Entries will be recived from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. There will be two excellent films on mulching. "Ruth Stout's Garden' and "Tara's Mulch Garden." A question and answer period on vegetables and mulching will round out the evening, Everyone is welcome to come and see the beauty of springtime.
