32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. May 5, 1982 . Health Day events planned at Hospital Canada Health Day is May 12, 1982. Co-sponsored by the Canadian Hospital Associa- tion and the Canadian Public Health Association, Canada Health Day is held annually with a view to increasing the general public's awareness of health-related topics. It was formerly known as " "Canada Hospital Day" and underwent a '"'name- change' this year. The * theme for this year is "Health and Safety -- Everywhere for Everyone" and gives opportunity for hospitals to inform their communities of their services, particularly those relating to the Day's theme. At Community Memorial Hospital, Port Perry, a pro- gram has been established for the entire week (May 10-15) and will include films The Ladies Hospital Auxiliary held their annual Spring Fair last Saturday at the Latcham Centre with a large crowd attending. Sales were reported good during the annual event, and Win Philips [back] and Rita Beadle can be seen here helping some of the customers who attended. Don't take any chances with perishable foods With summer just around the corner, the topic of food refrigerator. Allowing hot foods to cool to room and discussions on health and safety. These sessins are designed primarily for hospital staff, but general public and anyone who is interested are welcome to attend. The topics and scheduled times will be listed in the front lobby of the hospital. Topics such as exercise, nutrition, back care, occupational health and safety will be high- lighted. Hospital Staff, Hospital Auxiliary Members and both Teenage and Adult Volun- teers will take part in the programs. As well, Brignall's Ambulance Staff and Nutricare Staff will be involved. The ambulance demonstration is May 12, at 2:00 p.m. Since this is also des- ignated as Nurses Week, the nurses have planned a dis- play in the front lobby of the Hospital. Pamphlets and educational material will be available. Perhaps a background of the assistance provided to the Hospital by the Auxiliary and Volunteer groups would be of interest to Port Perry residents. Our Hospital Auxiliary sponsors various programs through the year to support the Hospital. These include; the Spring Fair, supported by the various service Clubs, Bake Sales, Annual Auxiliary Dance, Tag Day (to take place this year May 14th and 15th), Euchre and raffles. The Candy Striper Program is sponsored through the Auxiliary. Our Auxiliary hosted the Region No. 7 Fall Conference in October of 1981 and were proud to note that 265 attended -- the largest number on record to attend an annual conference. The Adult Volunteer Pro- gram has 26 members at present but would be inter- ested in increasing their numbers. As a matter of fact, several afternoon positions are required to be filled. The Volunteers are those smiling, friendly ladies who visit the patients, assisting them in any way they can, while at the same time, giving valuable assis- tance to the Hospital and Nursing Staff. You can recognize their cheery bright smock uniforms as they help out in almost every area of the Hospital. If community members are interested in taking part in the Volunteer Program, they may find out more about the program through a picture display in the front lobby during Canada Health Week. Presently, 16 girls and 1 boy take part in the Program lending their time from 4 to 6 p.m, after school and over the weekends: 9to 2 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. You'll find them tidying rooms, taking around fresh water, giving out patient trays, assisting in feeding patients and making beds. In recognition for their volun- teer time, a cap is awarded upon completion of 100 hours of service and a pin and stripe for 150 hours of service. It takes many hands to serve our community with health care. Appreciation extends to one and all -- the Volunteers, Auxiliary, the many service Clubs, and the individual.
