---- x= 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. May 12, 1982 Scugog Island by Mrs. Earl Reader On Friday evening of this week, you are invited to attend the annual Spring Concert of the Scugog Island United Church Choir and friends in the Church at 8 p.m. If you attended other years, you will know the excellent entertainment you canenjoy. If you haven't had this experience, you've really missed a beautiful evening as well as an opportunity to support the people who work so hard for our pleasure. The Women's Institute will meet on Wednesday evening, May 19 at the Island Hall. The program will be based on Citizenship and World Affairs with Mrs. Raymond (Jane) Reader as a guest speaker. The roll call will be - name an old home remedy for illness or physical dis- comfort. The motto wiil be, "miracle drugs are those which do as the label promises.' Don't forget your coupons for exchange. On Wednesday evening, the "Head" U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Irene Carter with 16 members and 1 visitor present. We missed 10 of our members. It was rather an unusual evening with lots of music and singing as we enjoyed so many of the old hymns drawn to our attention thro' a detailed study by Miss Beatrice McLean. We are very fortw: 'te to have Mrs. Pat Henshaw accompany us on the piano. We are also fortunate in having 5 choir members in attendance and who entertained us with a special number. This musical evening was planned by the group ieader, Irene Carter and her assistants - Marie Clark, D Clara Dowson, Doreen Adam and Evelyn Redman. Mothers were not for- gotten this month and for roll call we were requested to state a recollection of our mothers that stays in our memory. This resulted in many amusing anecdotes, or a recollection of talents, per- sonalities and loyalties. A lovely letter of appreciation from Flora - Muffitt was read and enjoy- ed. Beryl Pearce and Pat Henshaw expressed thanks for cards received at time of illness or accident. During the hospital report, Bonnie Gerrow commented on the success of the Spring Fair and informed us of a cook book to be compiled and to which we may contribute recipes. A dinner dance will come in the fall. Our next -big function where our help is needed is the museum opening for May 22 and 23. Help is also needed to clean the "'Head" museum church at 9 a.m. Monday, May 17 and help on Friday night, May 21 to set up and cut squares. We were informed that the young married women of the Island would like to form a 3rd U.C.W. where they could meet in the afternoons, have Bible Study and discussions groups for a Christian home. On Sunday, there was a good attendance at the Island United Church for Mothers Day tho' the United Church likes to think of it as Family Day. Miss Beatrice McLean, a Lay Minister from Greenwood was supply- ing in Rev. Linstead's place, as Rev. Linstead has resign- ed. Miss McLean who is also secretary of Presbytery had gone to a great deal of work to prepare special Family REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY ouriam 'OF DURHAM PUBLIC NOTICE Take notice that the Regional 'Municipality of Durham is considering Day Bulletins which in- cluded 2 new table "Grace" prayers, as this is frequently the only time a family has any worship together.
