The members of the Brooklin Horticulture society enjoyed the April 28th meeting.- It was the daffodil show and even tho' there were not too many daffodils out there were enough to make us realize the beautiful spring flowers are here to enjoy. There e many beau- tiful African Violets and other 'house plants on dis- play, and some lovely dish gardens made by the Jr. horticulture group. When well over 80 she took care of her garden herself and grew good vegetables on top of the ground and under hay. Very interesting. The next meeting will be an auction sale of plants and Ken Brown of Ashburn will be the auctioneer. Mrs. Wm. Gardner spent a week recently with Mr. and Mrs. E. Westfall and children of Hamilton. The Ashburn group of the Womens Missionary Society met at the home of Ray Death on May 5th in the evening. The President, Bernice Gardner conducted the meeting and Nellie Hopkins gave the opening worship service: The study was given by Muriel Fisher and was taken from the current study book. Mrs. Allen Walsh spent a couple of days last week with her sister -and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fisher. The fashion show which was sponsored by the Kirk Guild and held at the Thunderbird Golf Club last Tuesday night was a decided success. ' The tables were decorated with lovely house plants which were given away as prizes. Miss Hilda Hopkins won the big door prize of a' were several other prizes which were donated and drawn to give away. The children looked so nice in their kiddies gro' clothes and many lovely things from Country Classics of Port Perry were modeled by Ash- burn ladies. The Barber Shop Quartette and the pianist for the evening added much to the spirit of the evening when we even had a ride on the love boat. The President, Margaret Mathews and Convenor Barbara Porter and their committies worked very hard to make the evening the success that it was. Betty Emm was hostess to a delightful friendship party in honour of Joan Lehman and daughter Diane. They will be leaving shortly as Joan and Bruce have bought a home and store at Burnt River. We wish them every success in their new venture. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Humphrey visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs: David Humphrey, Mr. Chris Humphrey and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell of Deep River. While Mr. Douglas Humphrey was in Otta participating in a band grou exchange. Congratulations to Gwen Richardson who will graduate from Centralia beautiful oil painting. Gwen majored in Agriculture Technology. The graduation ceremonies will take place next Friday. Mothers Day was observed at Burns Church last Sun- day. Rev. McEntyres childrens story was "Hold- ing the home together", and of course it was "love". His message for the adults was entitled "Discontentment". The mens choir sang two numbers. Pansys were given to the children in church school in honour of Mothers Day. Next Sunday, a pulpit ex- change will take place between Burns and Hope Christian Reform Church. The Rev. Carel Gelenyse will conduct the worship.
