(Aside from the two inter- ested members of the public, there were two reps from the Natural Resources Ministry at the meeting, one planner from the Authority, Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor, who is vice-chairman of the Auth- ority board of directors, Mr. Macnab, and a reporter from the Port Perry Star.) Mr. Mcnab said the Auth- ority is now in the final stages of preparing a broad watershed management strategy which will set the overall direction for Kawartha's programs and policies. These include water man- agement, erosion control, protection of groundwater supplies, water monitoring for both quantities and quality, and problems of low flow. Under water management the Authority already has pin-pointed 32 areas within its jurisdication that could be subject to flooding at times, although Mr. Macnab said there are no really serious flood areas within the area. Conservatinn and land management are also within the sphere of the Authority, and since nearly 90 per cent of the land is privately owned, there are programs of assistance to landowfers for such things as erosion, reforestation, conservation, and the preservation of sensitive wetlands. Mr. Macnab said that starting this summer, the Authority has volunteers working in co-operation with the Environment Ministry to take weekly samples of water for such things as clarity and the amount of algae. Lake Scugog is included with samples to be taken on both the east and west arms of the lake, but Mr. Macnab said a lack of money will prevent testing of these samples for bacteriological contaminations. The purpose of the meeting had been to get input from the public on the Watershed Strategy before it is completed this summer. Although there were just a couple of people at the meeting in Port Perry, there were six at a similar meeting held a week earlier in Fenelon Falls, the commun- ity where the Authority's head office is located. A third meeting is slated for this week in Lindsay. The Kawartha Authority covers an area of about 1000 REDS IE IAs ere .} MALAECP RATER ENN 2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. Rose told the con- gregations at St. John's Church in Blackstock and - the Church of the Ascension in Port Perry that his res- ignation will take effect August 1. ) His new church will be St. Olave's in the south Kings- way area of Toronto which has about 300 families in the congregation. Rev. Rose told the Star on Monday that the opportunity to move to the new church in Toronto "came up quite suddenly" over the last four weeks or so, and making the announcement last Sunday was difficult for him. A committee is to be set up this week to begin the search for a successor to Rev. Rose. In addition to his work as a minister in Port Perry and Blackstock, Rev. Rose was active in municipal politics, serving as a member of council for the former village of Port Perry. When Regional government was formed in 1973, he was elected as Scugog Town- ship's representative on the Durham council and was chairman of the council's planning committee and social services committee. Rose did not seek re- election in the 1980 municipal Police Week May 10to 15is Police Week in Ontario, and the public is invited to visit any of the Durham Region Police divis- ional offices, or the Head- quarters in downtown Oshawa.
