ONT L1N 2K2 THAT Building permits drop sharply in first quarter If the first four months are any indication, 1982 could be a slump year for new con- struction and building in Scugog Township. A report from the Town- ship building inspector shows the value of permits issued during the first four months is just over $1.1 million, compared to $1.7 for the same period in 1981. And the most dramatic slump is in single family homes, where just. five permits were issued in the first four months, compared to 28 last year. Although the number of new homes is down from last year, the value total so far in 1982 has been bolstered by three major building projects: the new warehouse for Gerry's Produce; the. addition to Port Perry IGA Store; and the construction - RAY HILLIER years ahead. to Emiel & Cathy Kroonenberg on the Opening of your New Lounge at Emiel' s Place Restaurant We wish you much success in this new business endeavour during the With our sincere Best Wishes.... from *Brian Jordan Decorating * Rensink Construction *Ken Murray Electric *Bob Thompson Heating 'Bob Goodman Plumbing of a new church by the Hope Christian Reformed Church. These three projects have a combined value of almost $650,000. When the building report was tabled at the May 10 meeting of Scugog council, Mayor Jerry Taylor commented that most municipalities in the Region are experiencing a slump in construction so far this year, mainly due to the economic conditions and the current high interest rates. Scugog did experience a fairly active building year in 1981 when the value of all permits reached close to $8 million, and there were more than 100 permits issued for new single family homes. But the previous year, 1980, the value of permits was just $3.8 million, with 56 new single family homes.
