No sooner had the ice gone out of Lake Scugog one month ago, and the boaters and water skiers took to the lake. Last weekend the Star photographer man- aged to get a ride in one of the ski boats and was able to catch this young Oshawa man, Jamie Cahill doing his routine on a slalom ski. Jamie and a few. of his" friends regularly use Lake Scugog to practice their skiing skills. ------ fa Hh SY Re Kathy Kroonenberg of Port Perry was delighted last Friday evening after receiving a civilian citation from the Durham Region Police. The plaque was presented. by Durham chief Jim Jenkins. Day weekend, Vol. 116 No. 24 Tuesday, May 18, 1982 36 Pages Alert thinking and initiative on the part of Kathy Kroonenberg was recognized by the Durham Region Police last Friday evening when Mrs. Kroopen- berg was presented with a civilian citation at the annual Police Awards dinner in Oshawa. Mrs. Kroonenberg of Port Perry was among eight civilians from all parts of Durham who received citations for their willing- ness to become involved and _their unselfish and at times courageous assistance to the police force. The beautiful plaque was oresented to Mrs. Kroonen- berg by Durham Police chief Jon Jenkins and Police commission chairman Tom Jermyn during the awards dinner held at the Jubilee Pavilion in Oshawa. When the citation was read aloud, the large crowd of police officers and civilians responded with a very warm round of applause. The incident which led to this citation began in Port Perry last August 10. Mrs. Kroonenberg was working in her restaurant Emiel's Place on Queen Street, when she noticed a young girl having dinner with an older man, ; She began to suspect that there was something not quite right about: this, and when the young girl and man started to leave the restaurant, Mrs. Kroonen- berg asked the young girl not to go and then contacted her | Scugog Township resident ! receives Police citation parents.
