The Farm Labour Pool in Port Perry helps place students on farms during the summer. Quenten Robinson, co-ordinator of the summer student day work programs says that they have received over 150 applications to farm from : students. Another part of his job includes promoting farmer interest in hiring han "from the Labour Pool. Here, Ralph Honey, of R.R. 2 Seagrave [left] is handed the A Labour Pool's calling card in case he requires help. Students will work on farms during busy summer months y- Over 150 applications have been submitted to the Farm i Labour Pool in Port Perry, * from "students who wish to | gain farm experience this | summer. Quenten Robinson co- program told the Star in an interview that they expect more applications through- out the summer. Last year more than 220 applications were filled out. But Mr. Robinson warns students to submit their applications as soon as possible. All applica- tions are placed on file and there is no age restrictions. Farms requiring help can contact the Labour Pool office who select students on their experience and ability to do a good day's work. Part of Mr. Robinson's job required the recruiting of students from Port Perry, Cartwright, Uxbridge and Lindsay High Schools. He also visited farms in Ontario and Durham County in order to make them aware of the . day work program. Once a farmer needs help, he can ordinator of the day work call the Labour Pool office and usually have a student worker on his farm that same day. The minimum wage falls outside of the labour stan- dards in agriculture, so the Labour Pool can only suggest a recommended wage rate to the farmer. . Wages are usually deter- mined between the farmer and worker. Mr. Robinson feels that the day work program is 'good for those young people who have no experience. "There is a big demand for casual _ labour in. the summertime," he said. The program differs from other government programs such as Agricrew which line up demands from farmers in advance. The Farm Labour Pool utilizes students as they are needed throughout the summer. "Our program offers more flexibility,"" said ~ Mr. Robinson. The Farm Labour Pool also handles full-time seasons and orders. || pain { | of 100 mi or 250 mi vials for {| Oreater convenience and {| economy. | & Shur-Gain protection new Shur-Gain § {| Shur-Gain--for the modern farmer '| BLACKSTOCK '| PORT PERRY {WALLACE MARLOW CO.
