Thompson, Jeffrey strong on the mound Port Juniors win two more The Port Perry Canadian Tire Juniors boosted their winning streak to four games with two wins last week over Brooklin Legion and Oshawa R.H. Cabinet. On June 3 under the lights at the Port Perry diamond, the Juniors hammered Brooklin Legion 9-1 behind the strong four-hit pitching of Tim Thompson who went the distance. The Juniors played flaw- lessly in the field, as they did not commit an error and came up with some big plays, especially a sparkling catch by Scott Heard. Bob Ireland and Bill Owen each drove in two runs, while Thompson had a pair of hits and Cleveland, Franssen, Durward and Dickson connected with one each. The Juniors did not have ' quite so easy a time with R.H. Cabinet in a game played May 31 at Durham Fields in Oshawa. Falling behind 5-0 after just two innings, the Juniors were forced to play catch-up. After picking away at the lead through the middle innings, they came up with Legion Squirts begin season The Port Perry Legion Squirts Baseball season is now in full swing, although they have yet to encounter any real stiff competition, they remain unbeaten in their first four games. The Squirts are playing in The York-Durham Softball League, and will meet teams from Goodwood, Stouffville, Markham, Unionville, Oak Ridges, Bradford, and East Gwillimbury. Flames breeze to win over Packers by Rob Tobin Monday, May 31 saw the Flames defeat the Packers 5-1. Scoring for the Flames were Randy Knight with 2, Ritchie Lefort, Greg Fedyk and Doug Bronson all had single goals. Goreski's run record fo S straight wins Goreski's Insulation of Oshawa ran their season record to five wins and no losses with a pair of victories last week, including a 5-4 squeaker over :Genosha Hotel at the Port Perry diamond Friday evening. Russ Korbak got the win for Goreski's, and he is now 8-0 for the season with one save, Bill 'Michell was tagged with the loss. 'Daryl Hudgins rapped out two hits - for' the winners, while singles went to Phil Solomon, Dave Stewart and Korbak. For Genosha, Bob Burke had two hits with Ron Steeves and Frank Schram getting one each. Last Thursday evening in Lindsay, Goreski's bounced the home team 7-4 with Lawrie Williams getting the win with relief in the fifth inning from Korbak., Jim Trumble, "Daryl Hudgins and Brian Myers each had a pair of hits for the winners, while Rick Dainard gave Goreski pitchers fits as he collected a single, double and triple in his trips to the plate. This Friday evening, Goreski's will be at home on the Port Perry diamond for an 8:30 start against the Oshawa Juniors. Lawrie "Williams likely will get the nod as the starting pitcher while Kelly Neils is slated to start for the Juniors.
