NEARY KERALA N 28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday June 15, 1982 News from Seagrave area (From page 16) culminated five years of hard work. Congratulations Bonnie - we are all very proud of your achievement and we wish you good luck and happiness in your chosen profession! Our group leader Bonnie Brunton and hubbie Frank have graciously offered us their facilities for our picnic and all members are cordially invited to attend. I have been requested to remind everyone that swimming lesson registra- tion at Branwynd Pool, Sea- grave begins on June 19 at 2:00 P.M. for lessons beginn- ing on July 5 until July 16. Folks don't forget our S.S. picnic and outdoor church service this Sunday, June 20 providing of course that the weatherman co-operates. The church service will be held in the picnic shelter at the park at 10:00 a.m. follow- ed of course by loads of races and games and last but certainly not least - lunch! Come and join the fun and NECRANG | US Ne SX SAREE Nai BO AS IP festivities! And moms don't forget to bring along a finger dessert please. On Friday evening our church sanctuary was filled to the brim with anxious and excited parents, grand- parents and kids. The occasion was the annual music recital for all the students of Mrs. Joan Lee. Although there were pro- grames distributed to every- one listing in order the children who were to per- form a person really didn't have to check the sheet, all one had to do was look around and see which mother was crouching low in the seat, twisting her hands, bowing her head in tense silence or had left out the biggest sigh when the child had completed her or his number to know what the childs name was! Following the recital Mrs. Lee was presented with a gift cer- tificate from her students by pretty little Lori Buscher. A Touch of Class accompanied by Mr. Irwin Smith were also present and delighted the audience with several Beach Boys medleys 'as well as other popular tunes. Joan is to be commended for her patience and kind- ness in her work with both children and adults and especially in her organ- ization of this most enjoyable evening. All the children and the mature students who entertained us are also to be congratulated on their talented performances. On June 27 we are pleased to have Mr. Donald Darrell as our guest speaker at church. Our church services will then be recessed until Sept. 5th when they will once again resume following the summer holidays. As this is the last time I'll be writing the news before the kids get out of school for their summer vacations 1 wish to take this opportunity of wishing them a happy and fun-filled summer and good luck on their exams. . And while I'm on such a happy note I'd like to con- grautlate Mr. Peter Hvidsten, Mr. John McClelland and their very pleasant and efficient staff on winning some very prestigious awards recently in the Canadian Community Newspaper competitions but I'll admit I'm not surprised because I've said for many years that the Port Star is the best paper around and it's about time it got the attention it deserves! Perish the thought of what we'd have to do without our homey, friendly and inform- ative little hometown news- paper. Keep up the good work folks, we're immensely proud of you! - Many members of our community were saddened to hear of the untimely pass- ing of the late Mr. Wm. Goslin of Epsom. Bill's face was a familiar sight at many social and community functions i in the area and his frienaly smile will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Helen and their family. Sorry to report that Bert Wanamaker is hospitalized at present. Gertie tells me that he is recovering quite well and we certainly hope he will be well enough to " attend his grandson Wayne's wedding on Saturday June 19. Louella Kennedy and Gertie Wanamaker were in charge of the devotional which was entitled 'A Green Thumb" based on the parable of the sawer at the recent U.C.W. meeting which was held at the home of Jessie Nobbs. The treasurer reported sub- stantial profits from the recent farm sale and Rally luncheon. They voted a generous donation to the Board of Stewards to help them defray upcoming expenses. The Manse Committee reported that repairs -are being made to the manse and the garage. A special committee has been appointed to check-into the feasability of getting a new floor laid in the ghurch kitchen. A surprise party was held by the family at the home of Marion Durward on Sunday. Mrs. Patricia Bailey : and beautiful new daughter Courtney were the happy recipients of a new crib. Following the presentation everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner. Please call any new items next week to Barb Mac- Donald at 985-2728. Greenbank news by Helen McKean This week - three more stately Maple trees were cut down on our main street. More bare poles took their place. With the moving of the beautiful brick home from the corner - Greenbank is changing with every vicious cut of the power saw and utility trucks that have invaded this beautiful quiet country village. This is progress! ! But with the new wide highway that will be built through here - no one will have time "To Stop and Smell the Roses." The lucky winners of the Greenbank Coffee Hour quilt draw . were: first - Fran Garvey, Port Perry; second - Audrey Geer, Port Perry; third - Anne Tran of Ux-- bridge. The Womens Institute members and friends will meet at the church at 8 a.m. for the bus trip on Thursday at Red and White Plaza at 7:40 am, Sunday dinner guest at the McKeans were David and Elaine McKean and boys, Larry and Pat Treleaven and children. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett of Lindsay also called in. Mr. and Mrs. Art Couves were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Bailey and then attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary of her cousins - Mr. and Mrs. Hector Bird in Georgetown. On Friday they visited her cousin, Mrs. Jeanette Mont- gomery in Erin Mills. In the afternoon visited Jeanette's husband who is a patient in the Guelph Hospital. Many Greenbank residents will remembér Jeanette who once lived in this com- munity. A Bake and Lawn Sale for the Museum will be held at the home of Mrs. Koch, 116 Crandal Street this Sat- urday. Donations for this can be left with Iva Phoenix.
