Reflections Port Perry's local theatre group, the Borelians, elected their new executive - last Thursday evening at their final meeting for the season. It was report- ed that once again the Bore- lians will be active in West- ern Weekend, however, with a present membership of over one hundred we will increase our participation. The plays taking place on Main Street will be pre dominately cast from our youth membership, At the Town Hall 1873, a saloon will be set up with an on going stage show. Dave ended his message with a forecast of good years to come and a nd growth for the Bore- Treasurer's 'Report, Sec- retary's Report and minutes of the previous Annual Meet- ing were read and approved. Dave Ellis reported from the play reading committee that plays for the 1982-83 season will be: Stick With Molasses, I'll Be Back Before Midnight, and There Goes The Bride. Beth Schryburt reported on the development of the youth portion of the Bore- lians. There have been two workshops with more to follow in the fall. They will take an active part in West- ern Weekend and work on several small productions during the fall. The youth have been the so called 'shot in the arm' for the Borelians, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the group. President Dave Ellis read the slate of nominations for the 1982-83 season from the Nominating Committee. Positions of Social Convenor and Play Reading Chair- person were accepted from the floor. Department heads will be appointed for each production from the volunteer list. The Head of Make-up was nominated from the floor as it is a duty in need .of consistency through out the year. Membership 'will now be directly carried out by the Treasurer and Vice President. After a show of ds the following positions ere filled: President- Bethany Schryburt, Vice President-Sandra Blakney, Past President-Dave Ellis, Treasurer-Raymond Nash, Secretary-Marilyn Wood, Theatre Ontario Rep-Terry Hodgins, A.C.T. Rep-Les Parkes, Producer-Doug Danter, Make-up Depart- ment Head-Lana Douglas, Social Convenor-Jo Russell, and Play Reading-Gerri that the name Borelian is not easy to promote as it doesn't clearly define the place or activity of the group and is often hard to pronounce, The motion to change the name was made and seconded; then followed a lengthy discussion with many pros and cons. It was finally to table the topic until the fall Wine and Cheese Party to allow time for all members to receive official notice of the debate. Les Parkes made the announcement that Lana Douglas will receive the Presidents Award from A.C.T., bestowed upon a member that stands out as having given more than one hundred percent with little prior recognition. Les also announced that several Borelians will be going to Sudbury during the summer to attend workshops on theatre at Laurentian University. Zona Parkes will be taking the acting work- shop. Dave Millar, Les Parkes, and Terry Hodgins will be attending the director's workshop. Steve Johnson of Black- stock was presented with a cheque to ad in his theatre study at the bursary is available annually to graduates that will pursue a career in the field of theatre. Beth Schryburt announced that Dave Ellis and herself were interviewed on CHEX, channel 12, by Judith Edmondson on the Durham Magazine concerning the Borelians which should air. August 21, at 6:00. The meeting was adjorned to coffee prepared by Hillary Renaud; a relaxed social time enjoyed by everyone. Cartwright High School student Stephen Johnson [left] was awarded a $100 bursary last Thursday evening at a meeting of the Borelians. The local theatre group presents the bursary to a local student who is continuing his education in the arts. Stephen is now taking theatre arts at Brock University.
