A reminder that Vacation Bible School starts the last week of July and will be held at Utica Church from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. All 'community children are welcome and if you haven't already reg- istered just come out on July 26th and join in on the fun. The U.C.W. have been busy lately and another project coming up is the catering to the auction sale of Mrs. Dora Geer which will be this Saturday. Ladies don't forget your pies or sandwiches and donations of extra pies from neighbours would be welcome. The sale starts at 12 noon. Coming up in August the U.C.W. are taking charge of a Church service on the 8th at 10:00 a.m. All former members are invited to come out as there will be a celebration of the 20th anniversary of U.C.W. Lunch will follow the service. On August 10th, the U.C.W. are visiting Daheim Nursing Home in Uxbridge to help the patients who have birthdays in that month, have a little bit of celebration. All members are urged to attend if possible, the time is 7:00 p.m. Winniers at the euchre held in the Hall on Friday evening were Ladies 1st Alma Kennedy with 83, 2nd Dorothy McCaslin with 80, and low to Dora Geer. Manchester News By Mrs. Johnston Our U.C.W. met on Ji at the home of Adeline one. They were entertaine to a lawn and house party. The eighteen ladies, retyrned from the house back to sit on their lawn chairs for the luncheon and visit. The weather was perfect. The flowers and garden looked lovely. It was certainly a very enjoyable afternoon's holiday. Our August holiday meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. August 5th, on the grounds near the Latcham building in Port Perry. On Sunday, July 11th, the Croxall families held their annual get-together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Croxall. Our sister Noreen from London and daughter Elizabeth from St. Catherines attended. Their family were Mr. and Mrs. John Croxall and three daughters of Utica, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Croxall of Mississauga and two sons. Their daughter Anna and Mrs. Mancini and their - daughter from Barrie were also there. Mr. and Mrs. John King- stone spent a few days visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Charbonn- eau in Fournier Ont. Janet and Claude have a lovely baby- Cathy. After July a schedule will be announced for August. Friends and neighbours will remember when Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Spencer and their twin daughters Lena and Nora lived on a farm west of Manchester, and specialized in growing a field of straw- berries each year. Lena was married Sept. 12, 1928 to Norman Gilbert of Oshawa who died Sept. 25, 1978, Mrs. Gilbert died June 19, 1982, Mrs. Gilbert is survived by two daughters Mrs. W. Glover (Helen) of Oshawa, Mrs, W. Wickens (Doreen) of Bowmanville, and two sons Murray and Bruce, both of Brooklin, 14 grandchildren nd 11 great grandchildren. At Oshawa General Hospital, on July 12, 1982, Edith F.L. Smith died in her 97th year. Wife of the late Wm. Thaxter, dear sister of Mrs. Arthur Hunter (Gladys) of Oshawa and the late rs. Arthur Lapp (Mabel). The brothers James L and Alva Thomas Smith are predeceased. Mrs. Thaxter is survived by a number of nephews and nieces. There seemed to be items for everyone. Some expressed their opinions as a very enjoyable time. Even, the shower did not delay the proceedings when all moved inside. Next year will be their 10th anniversary so the ladies, auctioneer (Murrary Jackson) residents and summer visitors are looking forward to something out- standing. On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Samells enjoyed a family picnic in Parry Sound when about 200 of Camie's relatives gathered from as far away as British Columbia. Well, the flagnappers have been at it again and made a second call at one home. We just wonder what is their purpose. One of these days, they'll try it once too often. Linda and Bill Samells with friends spent the week end at the Samells cottage at Gull Lake. On Sunday there was a very enjoyable service at the Island United Church when a string quartette accompanied on piano and organ played many selections and accompanied the hymns with their lovely music. We certainly appreciate their extra time closed. We thank those who have sent their August donations in already. Miss Beatrice McLean conducted the Service based on "The Courage of Con- viction and Consecration" and described the times that Jesus showed great courage. Courage calls forth the best in a person. Miss McLean now has an office phone at Manchester and you can make contacts with her on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 985-8779 without calling long distance. At other times she may be reached at 1-683-3787. Miss McLean has made visits at the hospital and nursing home and eventually hopes to contact Island residents. Rev. Chas. Braham of Dwight, Ontario who served us for many years will return to take the United Church Anniversary Service Oct- ober 17. With his many years of service, he still exchanges Christmas mail with about 600 former parishoners and loves to hear about their lives, so we are all looking forward to this occasion in the Fall.
