Included in the weeks activities were two league games which the Gamblers won by a 2-1 score over Zephyr "AMS, Then on the weekend they played in the Goodwood Tournament and came home with the top prize after winning all four of their games. On Saturday, the Gamblers downed Oshawa R-H Cabinets by 9-1 score and then shut out the Thorn- hill Bears by 5-0. Sunday morning saw Greenbank beating the host Goodwood team by 3-0 and in the main event final the Gamblers stopped Markham by the same 3-0 count to take, ship. Excellent defensive - play was the key to the big week for Greenbank as they only gave up two runs in the six games played and one of those was unearned. Led by the pitching of Lefty Ken" Irvine who won four games last week and Ken Goreski who won the other two, the Gamblers moved into a tie for second spot in the tight Uxbridge Community League. Irvine bested Mount Albert Mounties, Zephyr "A"'s, Oshawa R-H. Cabinets and Goodwood while Goreski downed Thornhill and Mark- ham in the Goodwood Tournament. The two left handers, Irvine and Goreski, along with right hander Elmer Spence give the Gamblers an excellent pitching staff for intermediate "c" fastball. Don Phinney and Bill Thomson share the catching duties and the infield consists of Jay Williams, " John Foster, Don Beaton and Neil Rodd. Patrolling the Gambler outfield -are' Greg Rodd, Dennis Romeril, and Brian Lee, with Gary Baker and Trevor Till playing utility roles in the field and acting as "Designated Hitters'. Playing coaches Ron Winslow and Denny Tullock round out the Greenbank roster along with manager Rodd Foster. . . Scugog Soccer League by Marilyn Watson Soccer is a series of practices and exhibition games as we take a holiday break. It's been a nice rest for the parents who willingly give up their time to escort the boys and girls to games "and tournaments all season. See you at the fields next week folks! All soccer players received a letter about Soccer Field Day, August 14. It will be a great day at the Port Perry Cinema to see many soccer stars on film. Western Weekend is here and with it is our own Western Weekend Tourna- ment at the Scugog Fields. A - select team of Atom players from Uxbridge, Rexdale, Scugog, Whitby, Pickering Town, Bowmanville, New- market and Ajax will compete from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 7. On Sunday, August 8, the four winning teams will compete at 10:30 a.m. The final two teams compete at 2 p.m. and trophies will be awarded at 3:15. The same schedule applies to select Mosquito teams competing from Uxbridge, Ajax, Rexdale, Whitby, Peterborough, Newmarket, Bowmanville and Scugog. At noon on Sunday, a special game has been planned so the kids can sit back, relax and learn. An exhibition game will be play- ed between the Scugog Coaches -and Newmarket over 35's team. Please wear full uniform. After coming close to qualifying in the Robbie Tournament Rob Page and Mark Butters of the Guild- wood Soccer Club had a poor run on games. They played four games loosing 3 and tying 1. Their last two games have improved a great deal winning both. The last game was a hig achievement beat- ing the Oshawa Turul team 2-0. The Turul team has been together for some years now while the -Guildwood team has only four players from last year. There will be a re-match this Wednesday, July 28 at 8:30 in the Oshawa Civic Field. Uxbridge, July 24 Port Perry Homestead Furniture -3 Agincourt - 1 Port Perry Homestead Furniture -8 Newmarket - 1 Uxbridge - 2 Port Perry Homestead Furniture -0 The 14 girls on the team gave it their all and then some. The final game against Uxbridge was played after only a 20 minute break from the previous game. The girls were exhausted but kept their opponents at bay until three quarter time, 'when the -first goal was scored. The final goal for Uxbridge was scored with only 20 seconds left in game time. (Turntopagel3) Prince Albert boy Mini Golf Champion On July 25, Port Perry Mini golf and Driving range held their 2nd annual kids minigolf Tournament. The tournament was a big success with all the kids enjoying themselves. The results are as follows: 1st prize. - Putter went to Ryan Lane of Prince Albert who shot 90 over 2 rounds; 2nd prize - baseball glove went to Daryl Leatherdale of Blackstock who 91 over 2 rounds; 3rd prize - member- shipwent to Dave Ireland of Port Perry who shot 92 over 2 rounds; Most hole in Ones went to Boyd Vanderhyl of Blackstock who had 6. holes in one over 2 rounds. 30 free passes were given out to the players for their hole in ones.
