Mr. Allen said the arena is fine for casual hockey for younger players but it simply was not designed or intended as a facility for more organized hockey leagues. For these reasons, ATTENTION! the Association was not able to get full endorsement from the OMHA. Last season, there were 73 youngsters aged five to 16 registered in the Minor Hockey Association, and Mr. Allen hoped that all of them would continue to take part in organized hockey by registering with the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association. He said that the Black- stock banded, sweaters would be offered to players at $15, and all goalie pads and other Association dis- Mr. Allen said the Association started to offer casual house league play for the youngsters, but as things progressed there was pressure for more structured play, travel to other arenas and so on. Hockey jackets will be released September 15, and anyone wishing more information on this should contact Mr. Allen at 986-9036. THURS., SEPT. 16 - 6:30 - 9:00 P.M. - Summerlea Golf Club professional Graham Gunn enjoyed a successful tournament in Lachute Quebec last week as he finished two under par for the 54 hole * club pros event, just one stroke off the lead and good enough for $2100 in prize money. [See story] Area golf pro two under par at championship Graham Gunn, golf pro at the Summerlea Club just south of Port Perry finished one stroke off the pace in the annual Canadian Club Professionals Championship held August 31 to September 2, in Lachute, Quebec. Gunn was two strokes under par over the three day 54 hole event which attracted a record 136 golfers, all head professionals from clubs across Canada. He won $2100 for his efforts. "I was very pleased with the three rounds and the way I played," he told the Star on Friday. He described the Lachute course as being narrow and tough, but in excellent condition. Gun was also a member of the four-man Ontario team which won the 36 hole total score competition held during the same tourna- ment. Each member of the winning team received $150. This is Gunn's first year at Summerlea and his first year as head professional. He worked four years as an assistant pro at Seaton and four years at Whitevale. Next year's Club Pro- * fessional Championship will be held in Red Deer, Alta,, and Gunn said he definitely plans to compete.
