Present were: John and Diane Slute, Jeremy Jay and Julie of R.R. 1, Oshawa, and Robert and Carol Mairs, Stephen and Katie of Nestleton. Son- Allan Mairs was unable to attend. 'Happy Birthday Wishes' to Robert- who cele- brated Thursday, Sept. 2nd, and Julie who was 2 years old on Sunday, Sept. 5th. Nestleton Presbyterian Church -An average attendance on Sunday morning, Sept. 5th, Rev. Swann led with discuss- ion on Romans I 2- the theme being 'Transformed Daily Life." Service will continue at 10 a.m. until time reverts back to standard time- with exception for Sept. 26th. The 137th anniversary service will be held Sept. 26th at 11 a.m.- the anniver- sary speaker will be Rev. Alex McCombie of St. An- drews, Islington. Special FTE LIA PAE AN 3 music and refreshments will be served. All are invited to attend and bring a friend. Euchre Results A very good turnout last week and the winners were: First prize- Scott Hammet with 86. Second was a tie with Dorothy Edwards and Joe Bourgeois- 83. The prize was split. Lillian Shaw- low with 51. Try to attend on Wed. evenings for an inter- esting game of cards, fun and winding up with refresh- ments and a time of visiting. The ladies auxiliary will wel- come you warmly. Nestleton wUnited Church On Sunday morning with a fair attendance Rev. Dale Davis presented a timely message entitled "The Wages of our Labour' reading scripture from Ephesians and Matthew. The choir sang 'Work for the Night is Coming"' in keeping with the theme. Offering was received by Messrs. Ralph Sadler and Norman Mairs. Two lovely bouquets of garden flowers graced the Prince Albert area news by Ilean Pugh September already! Where has our summer gone? By the time you read this column the Port: Perry Fair will be over and the kids off to school. Hope you took in the Fair on Saturday or Sunday when the weather was nice. Rev. and Mrs. Clarke, Ed and Catherine Daigle and family spent several days in Ottawa a week or so ago. Rev. Clarke had the honor of marrying his granddaughter Cathy Murray. Sympathy to Jim and Minnie Marten on the pass- ing of Jim's mother last week. She was in her eighty ninth year. Several couples from Port Perry and Prince Albert attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Frank and Edith Gibsen former residences of the village on Friday, August 27th at the Cambray Community Centre. Those attending from Prince Albert, Les and Grace Beacock, Clinton and Marjorie Chambers, Norma Geer and Merv and Ilean Pugh. Now that summer "82" is almost over and most activities become restricted - to the indoors, the ladies in this area are "gearing up' to "shape-up" with their dancercize classes which are to be held at the community centre Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning September 14th and Thurs- day mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. If your party dresses are a little snug after all those backyard barbecues why not join them? Sunday, August 29th, the church doors opened as Patricia Love welcomed those attending. Our new minister Rev. G. Jackson, delivered a most meaningful message. Our organist Eva Hunter was also on deck. Offering gathered by Clayton Love and John Brough. We are happy to note Rev. Glenn and Mrs. Jackson and family are home from a very rewarding vacation. The Misses D. and E. Moore of Oshawa were guests with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. S. Moore. The four were also in Barrie one day. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jeffrey Millbrook visited at the Howard, Albert, Grant Jeffrey homes one day last week. The .Les Beacocks have had their grandsons Lee, Blair, Craig and Philip for some holidays. Norris Mitchell and family of Bowmanville visited one evening last week with his grandfather, Jim Mitchell. Bryan and Judy Beacock and Philip enjoyed Niagara Falls one day last week. Ivan and Linda Pugh of Trout Creek spent a few days of their holidays with us. If you have children ages 2 and one half to 4 years and would like them to attend nursery school in the Prince Albert Church, you could call Mrs. Pat Mowers 986-5581 for information. If there are enough children they would like to have a morning class for the younger children and an afternoon class for the 4 year olds. Thank you for calling in some news. The Nestleton Sunday School will commence fall activities Sept. 12th at 11:15 a.m. The Nestleton U.C.W. will meet in the Church Sun- day School room on Tues. Sept. 14th at 2 p.m. Ladies of the congregation cordially invited to attend. Nestleton Women's Institute On Wed. Sept. 1st at 1:30 p.m. the Nestleton Women's Institute met in the Comm- unity Centre. Following the opening Ode and Collect, President Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm welcomed the twelve members and one visitor present. She read a "Tribute to Farmers" given at the Farm Women's Na- tional Conference in Ottawa. Pianist- Mrs. Richard Davison. Secretary Mrs. Robt. France read the minutes and correspondence and gave the financial report. The Roll Call- "Name a Mineral found in Canada and give its use" was well answered. A letter is to be sent to Mrs. M. Firlit whose husband is ill. An interesting report was presented by Mrs. Don Few who attended the 85th anni- versary party of the F.W.I1.O. on August 12th held in the Constellation Hotel in Toronto. The president reported on the Blackstock Fair Exhibit and thanked those who had assisted with it. The Adult Leaders Work- shop "Food for all Seasons' and the short course "Sewing for your Child" were discussed. Vice- president Mrs. Don Frew is to be the delegate to the area Convention in Toronto on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. Several members hope to attend for one day. All present joined in sing- ing familiar songs which pro- vided a welcome break. Agriculture and Canadian Industries convenor Mrs. Fred Dayes presented the programme. An excellent paper on the motto - "Don't travel this Year in last year's Rut" was given by Mrs. Wilford Jackson. The president gave a paper on 'he Apple Industry and also ead the winning speech in he Queen of the Furrow Contest on the topic of Farming. A reading by Mrs. Lorne McKee- "Dad's Trust' and two amusing poems, "Sing along while you drive" and "Advice to the Elderly" by Mrs. Fred Dayes concluded - this worthwhile programme. A special treat- a vocal solo by Miss Tracy Andrews, granddaughter of Mrs. Dayes. She sang sweetly "Give me Oil in my Lamp." Following O Canada and the W.1. Grace, delicious re- freshments were served by Mrs. Lorne McKee ghd her group. Mrs. D. Frew voiced appreciation to all respon- sible. Next meeting Oct. 6th at 1:30 p.m. in Community Centre. Everyone Welcome. Open House The Durham Region Horseback Riding for the Handicapped Association will be holding its fourth annual '""'Open House"' on Sunday Sept. 12th, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. at Hoskin Stables, Blackstock (Durham Road 57). This program has been operating for four years, offering riding instructions to the Handicapped. Every- one interested in learning about the work of the Asso- ciation or. watching the riders display their skills are welcome to attend. Refresh- ments will be served. Caesarea Community Church Sunday, Sept. 5th, 11 a.m. Rev. W.H. Crawford pre- sented a splendid message- the theme taken from Luke 19: 1-10 entitled "Confessing Our Sins" with Mrs. Bonnie Ballingal playing the Hammond Organ. Mrs. G. Cameron sang, "The Prayer of St. Francis" without accompaniment. A very good attendances" The Caesarea Church are expecting to have Sunday School operating by October. A warm welcome to the friendly Caesarea Church next Sunday. Families on the Move Mrs. Amelia Hubbard of PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. September 8, 1982 -- 23 News from Nestleton and Caesarea Bowmanville has been a guest with John and Marion Hall of Williams Point for two weeks. Mrs. Hubbard is Marion's mother-in-law. We trust friend John Hall~ who has a poor summer will be feeling much better soon- just like his old self. Also- another friend Daisy McNeely isn't the best as yet- hope she'll gain more strength in future days and be able to enjoy life more once again. Very best wishes to these folks from this area. Mrs. Norma Wilson, Dun- troon, has returned home after a ten day visit at the Cawker farm, Scugog Point' Rd., and she also was a guest with other relatives and friends within the area. During the long weekend, Arthur and Carroll Cawker and Bryan of Sudbury, spent time visiting at the farm and on Sunday all had a delicious noon hour '"Smorgasbord" at Crandell's Riverboat, Port Perry- then later in the day- visited in Oshawa. Bryan was on his way to Waterloo University- he has enrolled in the Kines- iology (Kinetics) course (a study of the principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human move- ment). We congratulate the Port Perry Fair Board for an interesting as well as a successful Fair once again. Many residents from this section were there in full force to give support. The weather hasn't been that great for fairs and cottage living at times- but now that the cottagers have returned home and kids are back in School, we'll probably have sunny, warm weather. We trust the last big holi- day weekend of the season- Labour Day- was a safe and happy one for all- especially the travellers battling heavy traffic.
