September 21, 1982 Utica and area news by Vera Brown Church and Sunday School this week were well attend- ed. The singing got under- way before the 11 a.m. hour and was followed by a puppet story by Gail Kerry, which pleased the children and adults both. This week service will be held at Epsom at the regular hour. The Official Board will meet on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Utica Church. The Social Club meet at the home of Ear! and Eliz. Taylor this Saturday at 6:45 bring flashlights and a magic trick. There will be a euchre in Utica Hall this Friday at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Slute visited with Mr. and Mrs. Len Slute of Raglan on Sat- urday evening. Sunday supper guests of the Slutes were Mr. and Mrs. Brian Slute and Allison of Whitby. Mr. and Mrs. William Lake and Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding were Sunday dinner guests with the Jack Skeld- ing family. Mrs. Aileen Rogers of Bowmanville was a Sunday supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. George Harper. Legion holds Open House Over 600 members of Port PerryLegion, Branch 419 will be observing Legion Week between September 19 - 26, 1982. And to allow the public to see their facilities, they will be holding an Open House all week between the hours of noon and midnight. Members of the Legion are proud of the work they do within their communities. Not only do they look after the needs of Veterans and their families, but they have expanded their role to encompass the aged, and others of need in the community. Branch 419 president, Ed Groves told the Star the Legion is very diversified and active in many different fields. Some of these are: Port Perry Community Memorial Hospital, Cubs and Guides, Cadets, Student Bursaries, Public Speaking, Minor Hockey, Softball, Soccer, Community Care; Central Seven, Block Parents and the Library. In addition to these organizations, the Royal Canadian Legion make many charitable donations to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Heart and Cancer Funds, etc. Mr. Groves issued an invitation to the residents of Port Perry and area to visit Branch 419, look around and enjoy their hospitality this week. On Sat- urday, Mr. Eric Carre attended a memorial service in Peterborough and had dinner with his family in Bridgenorth. On Sunday they were in Toronto with Mr. Bob Hinchcliffe to bid him farewell as he is moving to Saskatoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Croxall and girls were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Croxall and boys in Mississauga and also visited with Miss Lily Timbers who is a resident in Nisbet Lodge in Toronto. Mrs. Mildred Thompson visited with Mrs. Phyllis Clarke in Uxbridge on Sat- urday night and on Sunday was a supper guest with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Kirton in Mount Albert. Better health is wished for Mrs. Vera Taylor who has been -a little under the weather lately. Get well soon we miss you. Also get well wishes to Mrs. Eva Sutcliffe who is still in hospital. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Samells took a trip to Algonquin Park to enjoy the Panorama of colour. On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Thompson went to Richmond Hill to attend the wedding of a grandson. Mrs. Sam McDowell is now recuperating at home after her surgery and expresses appreciation to' those who called upon her. Rev. Linstead has had some treatment in Princess Margaret and this week will go to Oshawa Hospital for surgery. So we trust this will finally restore his health and vigour.
