The Nestleton U.C.W. met for the first fall meeting on Tuesday, September 14, at 2 p.m. in the Church Sunday School Room. President Mrs. Mabel Cawker brought the meeting to order with a hymn, a welcome and a poem entitled "Seasons" written by Marion Taylor Ford of Toronto - a former Nestleton girl. The minutes of the June meeting were read by Assist- ant Secretary Mrs. Leona Sadler and approved. During ~~ correspondence thank you cards were rec'd from several folks who have been hospitalized. Cards were sigried for those with health problems. An effective worship was given by Mrs. George Bowers, Scripture taken from Luke 5: I-II followed by Prayer, a hymn, and two interesting readings by Mrs. Jean Williams entitled, "Tips and Tithes" and "Small Potatoes'. This part was closed with a hymn. " The roll call was answered by "an economical recipe" and many good responses were heard for these days of inflation. The U.C.W. gave a size- able donation to the menfolk towards the new church roof. The 1983 calendars (Church) are ordered and will be available at the October meeting. A brief discussion" was held - re - plans for the Cancer meeting and the special meeting for Nov- ember. Several calls on sick, shut-ins etc. were made during the summer months by the U.C.W.members. Mrs. Bernice Mairs gave an excellent paper on '"'Stewardship" and '"Vocation" which was written by Mrs. Marion Hall who was unable to attend due to another very important committment. We do appreciate Marion's efforts and commend her for a task ~ell done. After the meeting closed with the Benediction - a lovely lunch was served by Mrs. Jean Williams and Mrs. Ella Bowers and a social hour enjoyed. Mrs. Doris Rohrer expressed appreciation to those responsible for the good meeting. Family Interests Leaving on Friday evening with their cabin trailer Victor and Winelda Malcolm of Nestleton had a most enjoyable, interesting week end. They spent the first night at Little's Point - east of the Warsaw Caves -and north of Peterborough. On Saturday, they journeyed to Trenton, then Sunday Vic and Win went to the Church service at Colborne United Church where Rev. Victor Parsons is Minister. After the service they had lunch and a great visit at the Manse with Victor, Ruby and family before leaving tor home around 3 p.m. What a wonderful way to spend a weekend! On their way home they called on Jamie and - Denise Kent and family in Orono. Arnold and Jean Williams accompanied by her parents, George and Ella Bowers, Nestleton, journeyed to New Liskeard on Friday to spend the weekend with Mrs. Dorothy Chapman, and while there attended New Liskeard Fair. Stuart and Helen Dorrell of Englehart, former residents of Black- stock, were at the Fair as well - and were invited supper guests with Dorothy Chapman. Needless to say - they had a wonderful visit catching up on the news re-Cartwright area. The Williams and Bowers re- turned home on Sunday - a glorious drive as the treéS were beautifully coloured in hues of crimson and gold. A very 'enjoyable weekend! Family Re-Union Over 70 of the Gerrow clan gathered at the Nestleton Community Centre on Sunday for their 51st re- union. A lively program of sports for young and old was ) followed by a sumptous buffet supper and a brief business period. Nestleton United Church On a bright Sunday morning a fair attendance turned out for the worship at Nestleton with Rev. Dale Davis conducting the service. He used as his meaningful topic 'Can you hear When Jesus Speaks?' A trio sang the {favourite Swedish Folk Melody "How Great Thou Art". A cordial welcome for next Sunday. It was gratifying to see an excellent attendance for the Sunday School under the direction of the following for 1982-1983 vear. Superint- endent Robt. Mairs. A Friendly Call Your correspondent was pleasantly surprised and pleased to have a phone call from a former resident of Nestleton - Mrs. Lucy Donneral - now of Leaming- ton, who was in Blackstock with her husband George - visiting Bill and Mildred Fortune over the weekend. The Nestleton friends will be glad to know that the Donnerals are enjoying their new home in the fruit belt very much - it is warmer there and the pleasant weather agrees with Lucy - and she feels more like her old self again. We extend our best wishes from Nestleton to friends - the Donnerals - we do miss them too! Sympathy We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of friend Mr. Arnold Taylor of Blackstock _ on Sunday afternoon. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to wife Joyce, daughters Diane and Betty Jane, Mother Mrs. Alma Taylor, brother Anson and sister Kathleen. Arnold will be missed by a great many relatives and friends. Hill a year ago was Chairman of Oshawa Presbytery and Miss Beatrice McLean worked closely with him as secretary of the Presbytery. On Sunday, Miss McLean introduced Rev. Hill. His sermon was -fine.
