Families in the News Mrs. Minnie Fisher, Caesarea, accompanied her son Delton and Marge Fisher of West Hill on Saturday to the home of her other son Barry and Frances Fisher, Leanne and Susan of London, Ontario for a festive Thanks- giving dinner on Sunday, returning home the following day. Several Nestleton Women's Institute members attended the Fun Fair held at Solina on Tues. afternoon. All report a most enjoyable event. 50th Anniversary Bob and Marge France, Scugog Point, attended the 50th anniversary party of the Mary H. Graves Branch of the Women's Institute held Tuesday evening in Scarbor- ough Junction United Church. The festivities com- menced with a banquet serv- ed to some 70 members and friends, the husbands were invited as well. After the delicious meal a humorous program was featured, enjoyed by all. Also the history of the Branch was of great interest. Our friend Marg. France was instrum- ental in helping to organize the Mary H. Graves Branch! We commend her for her dedication and interest. Mrs. Dorothy Chapman of New Liskeard, was a Thanksgiving guest with parents George and Ella Bowers, sisters and brother in Nestleton and area. Norm and Bernice Mairs, Nestleton travelled to Sundridge last Sunday morn- ing to help her brother Lewis Kent to celebrate his 60th birthday. Other members of the family were also present to share in this joyous family birthday party. Our "best wishes" to Lewis!. Grahame and Neta Fish of Nestleton "hosted" a 7th birthday party for Rhonda - Jacobs. Our 'best wishes" to Rhonda from all her friends. Nestleton W.I. The Nestleton Branch met in the Community Centre on Wed. Oct. 6th at 1:30 p.m. First vice-president Mrs. Norma Frew presided for the meeting welcoming the 13 members present and opened with the Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and a poem entitled "A busy world we live in". Mrs. Winnifred Davison was the pianist. Minutes were read by Sec.- treas. Mrs. Marg. France and approved. An excellent financial statement was given. During correspon- dence an invitation was received from Blackstock W.1. to attend their meeting on Nov. 10. Cards were signed for the ill and a sympathy card for Mrs. Firlit who lost her husband recently. Roll Call "Who, What, Where outside Canada interest you"? was well answered. Business Portion The Central Ontario Area Women's Institute Conven- tion will be held November 2nd and 3rd at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto. The Workshop "Foods for all seasons" will be held in Nestleton Community Centre, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. with leaders Mrs. Rita Wygerde and Mrs. Marguer- ite Beacock in charge. Bring a sandwich for noon. All welcome. Mrs. Winnifred Davison reported re -the executive meeting of Durham West district, held at the home of the Dis. Pres. Mrs. Watson of Solina. Program Mrs. Norma Frew, citizen- ship and world affairs con- vener presented the program. The motto"People born into freedom do not appreciate its value". She mentioned the new Constitu- tion bringing Canada to full Nationhood, 115 years after the first Act of Confederation Mrs. Doris Rohrer gave a splendid reading "Are we losing our pioneer spirit'? Meeting adjourned with "O Canada" and the Women's Institute Grace. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Norma Frew and Mrs. Doris Rohrer and members enjoyed a social time. Appreciation was expressed to those partici- pating by Mrs. Grace Jackson. Next meeting Nov. 3rd will be held at the home of Mrs. Merle Heintzman. Welcome to all to attend. Cub Activities Saturday, Oct. 16th, the cubs and scouts were in this area calling door to door for the annual "Apple Day". They wish to thank the com- munity for their support. In the evening the annual father and son banquet was held in Blackstock Rec. Centre. Donna Schnavel did a terrific job of preparing and serving a delicious dinner aided by the ladies' auxiliary. Speeches from section leaders and presen- tations of awards followed. Stephen Dearborn received "best cub of the year' and "the five star general" awards for Cartwright B pack. The evening concluded with a very enjoyable magic show presented by Don Masterson of Blackstock. Congratulations. Family News Miss Laurie Malcolm is visiting her parents and other family members in the Nestleton area. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vanden Bosch, Cobourg were Sunday callers with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm. Lawrence and Gwendolyn visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wygerde recently and enjoyed seeing their pictures of Holland taken lately while over when Joe's parents were celebrating their 60th wedding anniver- sary. Nestleton Presbyterian Church An Average attendance for the Sunday morning worship service. Rev. Fred Swann spoke on "Tolerance In The Christian Love'. Mrs. Shirley Scott organist. A warm welcome for next Sun. Nestleton United Church At the 11:15 a.m. service Rev. Dale Davis chose as his topic "Heavenly Accidents" bible lessons taken from Ephesians and Luke. During the children's theme, some 30 of the Sunday School gathered at the front, very much interested in the special story told by the Minister. The choir sang "Wonderful words of life'. Nestleton United Church Women The Nestleton UCW met Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at the attractive home with the fantastic view of Mrs. Barbara Weir with 13 members present. Pres. Mrs Mabel Cawker brought the meeting to order with a warm welcome and a few Thanksgiving thoughts. A fine worship period re Thanksgiving theme was given by Mrs. Barbara Weir taken from Psalm 95, verses 1-7. Two hymns were sung concluding devotions with Prayer. When the roll was called members brought forward a get well card and an item for the Nov. 9th bazaar. After minutes were read and approved, much correspon- dence was handled re thank you notes, invitations, etc. An invitation by the Nestle- ton Presbyterian Ladies' Aid to join with them for their craft display and fellowship meeting, Oct. 21st, 1:30 p.m. was accepted. The Regional meeting will be held in Hampton United Church, Oct. 26, registration 9 to 9:30 a.m. Speaker Rev. Ross Davis Arnprior. Several members hope to attend. A satisfactory financial statement was submitted by Treas. Mrs. Neta Fish. Orders were taken for the Observer and the 1983 Church calendars are now available, and many were given out at the meeting. Miss Gail Malcolm is our delegate to attend the Church mid-week confer- ence to be held at Campbell- ford, Nov. 2 and 3. The Ecumencial meeting for Nov d Caesarea 9th, 2 p.m. in Nestleton United Church was discus- sed at some length. As this is the 20th anniversary of the United Church Women, a special speaker as well as special music in honour of the occasion will be of inter- est. A Mini Bazaar and Bake table will be featured. Tea will be served at the close. A nominating committee was appointed to bring in the slate of officers for 1983. . As this is the year of the Seniors, Mrs. Helen Vine in charge of the program, gave members an insight into the lives of the elderly by show- ing an excellent film portraying day to day living with the Seniors. In keeping with the theme Mrs. Barbara Weir read a nine-year-olds version of "What a grand- mother is' and followed with a fall contest. Winner Mrs. Janice MacKenzie. The meeting closed win Benediction. Refreshments were served by Helen Vine and the hostess Barbara Weir, assisted by other members. Appreciation was extended by Mrs. Leona Sadler. Caesarea Euchre Results On Wed. evening last a splendid attendance for the weekly card party sponsored by the friendly ladies' auxil- lary. First prize winner Joe Douregois 85, second Betty Iverson 79, Low Al Wackett 46. Happy Events Bill and Shirley Nicholls, Caesarea, are the proud grandparents of another baby boy, Christopher Thomas, born to daughter Vicki and Gord Todish in Oshawa General Hospital Friday Oct. 15. Mother and baby doing well. Heartiest congratulations! Birthday Party My better half, Sam, Scugog Point Rd. was the recipient on Sunday to a birthday celebration at the home of son Alan and Eleanor Cawker and family, Oshawa. A '"'wild duck" dinner with all the trim- mings was enjoyed immens- ely. Sixteen family members were present for the delight- ful occasion. Son Arthur Cawker of Sudbury was a luncheon guest during the week, on his way home from Waterloo University, he had taken his daughter Cheryl and son Bryan back after the Thanksgiving weekend at home.
