Port Perry MoJacks learn- ed a lesson the hard way last Thursday night at the Scugog Arena as they drop- ped an 8-7 decision to the second place Bowmanville Eagles. MoJacks had leads of 4-2 and 6-3 during this game, but in the end it was penalties which cost the team the two points as Eagles cashed in on five power play goals. Port Perry players took a total of 14 minors to seven for the Eagles, and although Mo- Jack penalty killers per- formed brilliantly at times, the Eagles are just too strong a hockey club not to take advantage of repeated power plays. It was a game MoJacks should have won as they carried the play to the Eagles for much of the match, except for the first ten minutes of the opening period. Jamie Bird and Todd Wilbur had a pair of goals with singles coming from Scott Dezan, Glen McKay and John Fusco. Eagle cap- tain Duane Major led his team with three markers and a pair of assists. He scored what proved to be the game winner late in the third with MoJacks Dezan serving a double minor at the time. Dezan was no sooner back on the ice when he scored a goal to make it 8-7 with just over two minutes to play. MoJack goalie Clay Lover- ing was pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute, and with only seconds left on the clock, Jamie Bird rattled a shot off the left goal post as MoJacks fought to gain a tie. Bowmanville opened the scoring with a power play goal at 1:11 of the first, and the teams were five aside late in the first when Fusco and then McKay clicked in the span of 16 seconds to give MoJacks a lead. After Eagles tied it early in the second, Bird went to work for two quick goals at 6:20 and 7:17, and then late in the period, Wilbur did some nice stick-handling deep in the Eagle zone to get two goals in 55 seconds. That gave MoJacks a 6-3 lead and the team seemed to have a stranglehold on the game. But Eagles kept chip- ping away with five un- answered goals to take the Tweens runners-up by Bev Thompson On December 27, 28 and 29th Markham played host to a 3 day tournament. The Tween Division was rep- resented by Caledonia, 2 Markham teams, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and our Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens. The first day our tweens met up with Caledonia at 12 noon, but it was a one sided game of 14-0 for Caledonia. Caledonia is an excellent team. The results of this game meant that we would go on to try for Consolation. The second day was better for our tweens. We played against Richmond Hill at 6 LAW, EE The 33rd annual p.m. winning 13-8. Heidi Meisner scored 7 goals; Kim Loudfoot had 4 goals and 1 assist; Valerie White scored 1 goal and Karyn Raines had 1 goal and 1 assist. Assists also went to Sherry Harris 1 and Denise Tompkins 1. This took Chris Allen Alum- inum Tweens into the third and close to the Consolation Prize. On the third and final day at 12:10, the Markham No.2 team came up against us. The score was lop-sided in our favour of 8-1 meaning we were the Consolation winners. Scoring for Port Perry were Heidi 5, Valerie 1, Kim 1 and Sherry 1. ns Bonspiel at Blackstock Curling Club was held I think the girls all had a good time at this well run tournament. This is Mark- ham's first year in Ringette and I have never been to a more organized tournament than this one was. Then on Sunday, January 2, 1983 our Chris Allen Alum- inum Tweens travelled to Oshawa for a 4:00 p.m. game. Port Perry was successful in winning 94. Scoring for us were Heidi Meisner 4, Karyn Raines 1; Valerie White 1; Colleen Scala 2; and Kim Loudfoot 1. Assists went to Sherry Harris, Colleen Scala and Valerie White. In the nets, Clay Lovering faced 37 shots while Craig German had 39. Both goalies made some excellent stops. - Aside from the penalty parade, MoJacks played very well with three regulars missing from the line-up. Darrin Jobb, Dave Alex- ander and Bob Horton sat out a one-game suspension that resulted from a brawl in Stouffville before Christmas. Jeff Johnstone and Dave Kemp were called up from the minor ranks to plug the gaps in the MaJack line-up and turned in a decent game. MOJACKS WIN 11-4 The MoJacks rebounded from the disappointing loss to Bowmanville with an 114 thumping over the Stouff- ville Clippers at the Scugog Arena Sunday night. The win gives MoJacks 33 points and a firm grip on forth spot in the standings, just one point back of third place Little Britain Mer- chants and nine behind sec- ond place Bowmanville. The 11-4 pasting of the Clippers avenged a 7-6 loss MoJacks took in Stouffville just before Christmas. Although the score was lop-sided, Mojacks waited until early in the third period to break the game wide open with seven goals in just under six minutes. The onslaught began at 3:44 of the third with the score tied 44 when Jamie Bird rapped in a rebound.
