According to police, Mr. Ar- buckle had been getting the barn ready for some young chicks and was using electric heaters in the building. About 8:30 Mr. Arbuckle noticed flames coming out of the se- cond storey of the barn near the centre. Efforts by both the Caesarea Fire Department and later the Port Perry department failed to save the structure. STOLEN GOODS Thefts of approximately $350 occurred at the Reach In- dustrial Site in two separate incidents sometime between January 16 and 19th. Police report that a storage building used by Highland Beverages of Uxbridge was entered by thieves by pun- ching a hole through the rear wall of the building. In this in- cident about $150 worth of goods including electric clocks and tumblers was stolen. In another incident, thieves gained entry to a storage unit used by Norman Gilbert of Whitby. About $200 worth of tools were taken. LOST CONTROL A 1978 Pontiac owned by John MacDonald of Lot 6, Concession 10, Scugog Township was written off ac- cording to Police, in a single car accident on January 20. The accident happened at 1:45 a.m. when the Mac- Donald car went out of control as he was travelling north- bound on Regional Road 2, north of Concession 3. Mr. MacDonald received only minor injuries when the car ended up in a ditch. No charges were laid, and the damage was estimated at $3,000. THICK FOG Heavy fog at the intersec- tions of Durham Regional Roads 21 and 23 are blamed for a series of accidents there on Sunday, January 23. Although reports are not complete, police report that at about 2:00 p.m. Joseph Rennick of 4 Graham Court, Ajax, was northbound on No. 23, coming to a stop at the lights when his brakes locked. His 1975 Mercury slid into a ditch on the south east corner of the highway hitting a pole and guidewires. The President opened the 'meeting with the Auxiliary prayer, and welcomed and wished all a Happy New Year. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary and approved. The Treasurer's report was given, and Camille reported on the tuck shop and Gift Cart. The Con. Secretary had sent out 6 Thank You notes, and 3 get well cards. Four Thank you notes were read and 2 cheques received. Ilean Pugh reported things were going well in the Tuck Shop and on the Gift cart. Bonnie reported 3 boys and 7 girls born in hospital since the last meeting and also expressed thanks for the lovely decorated baby booties which had been sent in. Hazel Coates, our capable wool convener, has got more wool on hand and expressed 5 YEAR G.1.C. A Scugog Township man has been elected president of the Oshawa Shrine Club. Art Desjardine of R.R. 3, Port Perry took office for a one year term at an official installation ceremonies held in Oshawa last Wednesday evening. The Oshawa Shrine Club has about 300 members, including several from the Port Perry area. Mr. Desjardine has been a member of the Oshawa Shrine and the Masonic Lodge in Port Perry for the past seven years when he moved to this area from Whitby. He is a retired manager of Canadian Tire Stores and now works part time with the Sheriff's Department at the Whitby court house. He expects to be very busy over the next year attending to his duties as president of the Shrine Club and taking an active role in fund-raising events. Shrine Clubs across North America will raise some $87 million this year for Crippled Childrens Hospitals and treat- ment centres and for burn units in hospitals. thanks for all the lovely knitted articles turned in at this meeting. Again we are having a Spring Fair being held on April 30th at the Latcham Centre. We will be having a Hospital tag day, May 13 and 14th, this being hospital week. = The President closed the meeting after which a social half hour followed and a lovely lunch served by Marie Chute and Mary McConnell.
