But aside from the fact the two games were decided by one goal, all comparisons end. The match with Lindsay was fast, hard-hitting and with plenty of action around the nets. The game against Bowmanville was a yawn for both teams who sputtered and coughed through three dull periods of hockey. This was far from a typical MoJacks-Eagle game as past encounters have provided fans with some of the best hockey in the Junior loop. With the Eagles having a firm grasp on second spot and the MoJacks pretty much assured of either a third or fourth place finish, it is possi- ble that the teams are gearing down for the last few league games as playoffs are less than a week away. The best player on the ice by far last Thursday night was MoJack goalie Clay Lovering who faced 33 shots, including 15 in the first period. At one point during that first period when MoJacks were killing a penalty, Lover- ing made four stops in the span of ten seconds off a goal- mouth scramble which ended when he stabbed a waist-high shot with the trapper and held on to force a face-off. Eagles opened a 2-0 lead in the second period as Carl Chambers scored both for his team before Tim Thompson got the MoJacks on the board with a power play marker at 18:47 of the second. He was set up in the slot by line-mates Todd Wilbur and Brian Mikkelsen. The third period was scoreless as neither team could generate much offense. There were just eight minor penalties called during the game. MoJacks were without regular defensemen Charlie Brown and Darrin Jobb which meant Bob Horton had to be used along the blue line Derek Edwards returned to action after missing several games with a foot injury and he looked pretty sharp despite the lay-off. Gord Rogers also turned in a good game along the blue line. He has been one of the "un-noticed" MoJacks for most of the season, a defen- sive defenseman who seems to get the job done. And he showed last Thursday night that he can lug the puck up ice on occasion. The three goals scored in the game was the least number of any match Mo- Jacks have been involved in all season. And it was the first time MoJacks have been held to just one goal. The MoJacks bounced back from Thursday night's loss to take a well deserved 7-4 decision over the Little Britain Merchants Sunday evening at Scugog Arena. The win gave MoJacks a two point bulge over the Merchants for third spot in the standings and it snapped a three-game winless streak on home ice. And for the second game in a row, MoJacks got solid goal-tending as Ken Harman made many difficult stops to keep his team in the game during the first two periods. The game was tight for more than 40 minutes and MoJacks were nursing a 4-3 lead early in the third when they struck for three goals in less than three minutes. Jamie Bird got the first at 3:50 of the third when he cashed a Bob Horton re- bound to make the score 5-3. Then at 6:13, John Fusco took a pass from Glen Mc- Kay and just 17 seconds later McKay took a pass from Fusco to make the score 7-3 and give MoJacks the victory. Glen Miller scored his second of the night for the Merchants at 17:56 of the third, but by then the game ORT AUTO GLASS ERRY & TRIM 139 Water St. MOBILE SERVICE 985-8507 Deductible ON INSURANCE CLAIMS! Mo- Jacks head into the final week of regular league play was well out of reach. MoJacks opened a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Scott Wallace and Todd Wilbur, but the Merchants evened the score on markers by Miller and Darryl Patter- son. Then at 15:09 of the second, MoJacks took the lead for good as Bird drilled a hard shot from the left side that seemed to hand-cuff goalie Keith Martin. Charlie Brown made it 4-2 late in the second as he scooped up a loose puck deep in the Merchant zone and slid a back-hand through traffic into the net. Merchants then made it 4-3 early in the third, before MoJacks blasted home the three quick goals to put the $ game on ice. Penalties continued to haunt the MoJacks as they have in recent games. All four of the Merchants goals came with a MoJack in the penalty box. Port Perry got two of its seven goals on the power play. Harman faced 35 shots in the MoJack net while Martin saw 43 at the other end of the ice. Midway through the first, Harman was flattened by a Merchant forward who crashed into the crease and both players wound up deep in the net. But he shook that off and turned in an alert game.
