Snowarama postponed The Port Perry Snowarama for Timmy which was slated for this Sunday, has fallen vic- tim to the tropical winter. Organizers announced over the weekend that the event has been post-poned until February 20 because of the lack of snow. Dave Ballingall told the Star there is just no way the event can be staged as plann- ed this weekend because of the lack of snow. He said even in the unlikely event of heavy snowfalls between now and Licence dispute (From page 1) cillor Lawrence Malcolm said he would not sit and listen to accusations and he threatened to leave the coun- cil chambers unless the de- bate toned down. Township solicitor Mike Fowler, who was present for the meeting, said in his opin- ion, a licenced restaurant at the Riding Academy does not break local by-laws as long as the restaurant remains incidental to the main use of the property as a riding ac- ademy and stables. The land is zoned agricultural which permits a riding stable. Mr. Kuipers said several times during the meeting he has no objection to people "having a glass of wine with ameal" and even listening to background music so long as the music is played so he can't hear it from his home. When the Liquor Board granted Rolling Hills the din- ing lounge licence, it stip- ulated there is to be no "live bands," the sale of liquor must stop at 11:00 PM and all patrons must be out of the premises by 11:45 PM. Although that licence has been approved, Rolling Hills still has not received it and Mr. Warboy said his client intends to live by those re- strictions. The licence does allow music by a DJ. After a long discussion with both parties, council took no action other than to ask them to try and resolve their differences. GRADUATION Lt. Sean J. O'Reilly, son of Helen and Joe O'Reilly was presented with his nav- igator's wings by his father at a graduation ceremony held at C.F.B. Winnipeg, Manitoba, on October 28, 1982. Sean has been posted to Maritime Command, C.F.B. Greenwood, Nova Scotia where he is flying Aurora a-c. Dump to close on Wednesdays The Scugog landfill (dump) site on Durham Road 8 just west of the Scugog Arena will be shut each Wednesday in the near future. Scugog council made the Wednesday closing re- commendation to the Regional Works department, which owns and operates the dump. The Regional department requested the dump be shut one day each week in an effort to cut about $30,000 a year off the annual operating costs. "NOW OPEN!" "And Ready to Serve You." The Scugog dump will con- tinue to be open all other days of the week except Sun- day. } It is expected that the Wed- nesday closing of the dump will go into effect in about four weeks time. - Regional officials met with Township council earlier this month to outline some of the problems facing all mun- icipalities in Durham with regards to garbage disposal and make the request the Scugog dump be shut for an additional day each week.
