The third game was played at the Ennis- more Arena against Listowell, again Port came up a winner. The first period re- mained scoreless till there was only 12 sec- onds left to play. Both teams played a hard period of hockey with Port taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jarrett Harmon assisted by Jeff Mills and Mike Feasby. Listowell scored three times during the 2nd period giving them a 3-1 lead when the buzzer rang. The Green Machines came out fly- ing in the 3rd period. An unassisted goal by Clair Cornish made it a 3-2 game at the 7:09 mark. Three minutes later Jarrett Harmon tied the score. Eric Grosvenor earned the assist on this very important goal. With only two minutes left a super passing play from Jeff Mills and Jarrett Harmon result- ed in Eric Grosvenor scoring the winning: goal. Listowell tried very hard but was un- able to get the puck past Ryan to tie the game. Final score was 4-3 for Port. Having now defeated each team in their group, the Green Machines advance to the semi-final games. This game was played ~ early Sunday morning against Immaculate Conception an Atom team from Peter- borough. As in the previous games each boy played well and as a result Port won this important game 5-2. Clair Cornish scored the only goal in the first period with Chris Legere picking up the assist. Danny Maw scored the first goal in , the 2nd at the 8:27 mark on a super pass from Eric 'Grosvenor. Scoring for Port was Clair Cornish, un- assisted. Winning this game meant the Green Machines were now entitled to play the championship game at the Memorial Centre. Championship Game Before the opening face off against a strong Atom Team from Campbellford, each player and coach from both teams were individually introduced with the spot light shining on them. The introduction and play- ing at the Memorial Centre was a great thrill for all the boys. All three periods were continuous and to end play with our boys skating hard and being on top of their man at all times. The first exciting period remained score- less with both teams having many chances but unable to score. A fine passing play from Jarrett Harmon and Brian Appleby resulted in goal no.1 being scored by Jeff Mills. Port's Port's regular goalie was not able to be there so Brad Moase went in net for him, Brad played an excellent game and came up with some key saves. Again both teams were really flying and it was not surprising when the game ended in a tie. Oshawa scored the first goal but did not hold the lead for long. They were penalized two minutes for body contact, and had just got back to full strength when Jody Logan pass- --ed-the puck to Jeff Parry who slapped it into the top corner of Oshawa's net. Jeff Parry put Port into the lead in the second period with a low shot from the blue line. Mike Sluggett assisted on the goal. Oshawa was able to tie up the game on a breakaway play, just 'catching Brad Moase under his glove. The third period re- mained scoreless. Port has their first playoff game Wednesday night at home against Cobourg. Ty Juniors reverse score The Sportsland Juniors are nearing the end of their league schedule and this week they played 3 games, all away from home. On Wednesday, Jan. 26, we travelled to Oakwood to play Mariposa - still our nemesis - the score was -6-0 in their favour. On Saturday, Jan. 29, we played in Whitby, this team is top of our league and they too shut us out. On Sunday, Jan. 30, we went to Wopdville, this is a first year team and are opposite to Whitby. The Sportsland Juniors played much better than in the pre- vious games and won 6-0. Kelly Storry scored 4 goals assisted twice by Tracy Staniland and twice by Joanne Connors. Joanne had 2 goals, one unassisted and the other by Kelly. Donna McIntyre con- tinues to improve in goal and really deserv- ed her shut out on Sun- day. Karyn Raines and Colleen 'Scala from the tween team played for the Sportsland Juniors this week, both girls played well. a a
