Saturday, January 19, the Stones took part in the annual LeFroy tournament. In their first game, Port won by a 4-2 score over the home team. The line of Ian Smith, Jeff Oke and Tim Allsopp accounted for 3 of the 4 goals. In spite of the fact that the referee did not award any second assists in the game, each member of the line figured in at least 2 of the markers. The second goal was also by Port with ~ Davis Watts scoring assisted by Jimmy Vernon. Lefroy got one in the second period but Port came back with two unanswered goals in the third. Ian Smith got Port's third goal assist- ed by Tim Allsopp. The last scoring play of the contest came from Jeff Oke with Ian Smith picking up the assist. All three forward lines and the defense played well for Port. While the Smith-Oke- Allsopp line did the scoring the other two lines played a good game. Port's second game saw them pitted against the strong Cookstown team. The rivalry was strong since Cookstown had defeated Port by one goal in a previous tourney. The game was one of the most exciting games of the year with Port's fans cheering so loud and long that half of them were hoarse by the end of the contest. Jamie Menzies who had a fine game for the losers got the only goal for Port. It is difficult to call a team who played so hard losers. Greg Stapleton who shone on defense was awarded M.V.P. for Port Perry. Robbie Jamieson also a defenseman for Port Perry 'had a good tournament. Not only Ports team but also its fans receiv- ed notice in the tourney. It was commented that Port had super fan support. Its not hard to support a bunch of boys who gives their all like these boys did. Well done Stones! Port has another chance this week as they take part in the Little Britain tourna- ment. Our Seniors put forth a valiant effort, making it to the Consolation finals only to lose by one point in the last 5 seconds of overtime to a tall and powerful Lindsay squad. Pete Christie came up with an outstanding effort in the tournament scoring 28 points in the finals against Lindsay. This game was led by the scoring of Rob Burnett, Richard Alsoop and Ed Somers with 18, 17 and 9 points re- spectively.
