February 1, 1983 Pee Wee A's win consolation at home After losing their first game to the Oshawa Dines, The Legion Pee Wee A's went on to de- feat Bowmanville and Peterborough to cap- ture the Consolation Championship in their home tourney this past, Saturday. Our home- town team were not ready for the strong per- formance turned in by the Dines, outstanding goal tending kept Port off the scoreboard on the few scoring chances they had. At the end of two complete periods Oshawa had a 3-0 lead, the last two goals were scored into an empty net as Port made a final attempt to get on the scoreboard. Our Pee Wee A's en- countered no problems in the second game against Bowmanville, allowing only one goal, while accumalating nine against the oppo- sition. Passing plays, back checking and solid defense were much more evident in this game. Scoring for Port were Stephen Connors and John Lally each with two, Blair Bailey, Warren Geer, Mike Sorley, Andrew Steele Tweens lose On Saturday, January 29th, the Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens travelled to Mariposa for an afternoon game. The outcome. of the game was riot in favour of our tweens as we only scored one goal through- out the game. Mariposa has a good strong team. and Mark Barkey each with one. Picking up assists were Brad Menzies with 4, Leather- dale and Sorley each with 2 and Bailey, Barkey, Traves, Brown and Lally one apiece. The Championship game proved a much closer contest with only four goals being scored, all by Port. Ballingall picking up a well de- served shutout. It was not until the halfway point of the first period when Brad Traves making an excellent rush up the ice fired one into the corner where Leatherdale pick- ed it up, passed to Connors who popped one behind Johnson for Ports first goal. It was end to end play for the remaining first and second periods with no further goals on the scoreboard. Port broke open the scoring in the third with three more, maintaining control in the corner and working out from behind the net paid off for Warren Geer on our second goal of the game, Shawn Nanay also drew an assist. Three minutes later a three way pass- The final score was 9-1 for Mariposa. Scoring for Port Perry was Heidi Meisner. But, the Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens have a game against their Mothers on Monday, February 7 to promote Ringette Week. Besides our home tourney this week, The Legion Pee Wee A's also played two exhibition games against the Bow- manville A squad Wed- nesday night in Port Perry the team played as a team, solid defense, well executed passing plays and all three for- ward lines were back checking plus super goal tending from Ball- Daryl Leatherdale, Scott Feasby, Chris Blair Bailey, Robbie Brown. ingall and McConnell contributed to a 5-0 victory. A power play goal by Brad Menzies assisted by Warren Geer opened the scoring at the 3:01 mark, the second goal with only 28 seconds left in the period was a re- bound picked up by Mike Sorley after Scott Feasby rapped one off the goal post, Brad Traves also drew an assist on the play. Maintaining control of the puck in the opp- ositions end earned assists for Leatherdale and Barkey on a goal by Andrew Steele with only two seconds remaining in the game. Sunday night in Hampton a tired team took to the ice, after three games on Sat- lacked enthusiasm which show- ed in their performance.
