Also Sportsland Not a bad pace for 37 Atom games this season Youngster chalks up 100 Hockey fans every- where know about the "Great One," but there is a Port Perry young- ster doing a pretty good job re-writing the record books in the minor hockey ranks this season. Ten year old Clair Cornish scored his 100th goal last week for the Malmont Farms Atoms A squad in just 37 games so far this season. And that total does not include the eight markers Clair has while playing for a Pee Wee team on occasion. The 100th goal came in an exhibition game in Bay Ridges that ended in a 3-3 draw and after the match Clair cel- ebrated with his team- THIS WEEKEND ONLY YOU CAN BUY ONE CHICKEN DINNER at regular price and GET ANOTHER FREE SWEETHEART with this mates who presented him with a cake and the puck mounted on a trophy. The youngster is captain of the Atom team which has had a pretty good season to date winning 34 of 37 games along with two ties and two defeats. A couple of weeks ago, this team won the D Division of the biggest Atom tournament in the world in Peterborough. The squad is now gear- ing up for a best of five playoffs against Uxbridge, and has its sights on the eastern all-Ontario champion-' ship down the road. Clair's coach Don Steele, who has had Clair on his team for the last four seasons, says the youngster has a lot' of natural talent and works very hard at the game. He's a very good skater and can fire the ° puck', said the coach. An indication of just how well Clair can fire the puck came Friday night in a game against Uxbridge when he notched his 101st. He took a couple of strides across the blue line and drilled a waist high slap shot that was in the net before the Uxbridge goalie could blink an eye. Later in that game, Clair got his " 102nd of the season. Hitting the century mark for goals puts -Clair--in- pretty good company. Although offence and defence is getting stronger every game. Sportsland started the scoring at the 17:38 mark in the first when Doug Bache scored fron Ron Thomson. The score remained 1-0 until the middle of the second when Gregorys tied it up. Doug Bronson put the first goal by Pete Namienko in four games which was assist- ed by Dave Bourgeois. Sportsland's Jim Beatty made a rush down the ice and at the 9:22 mark, put Sportsland ahead as he fired a wrist shot by goaltender Lavel Poulin to get the game winner. Ken Smart worked hard to get the assist. goals nobody keeps stats from year to year, officials close to Port Perry Minor Hockey believe the last player to accomplish that was George Burnett as a Bantam. He went on to have several fine seasons with London Knights and is now play- ing for McGill Univer- sity where he is the lead- ing scorer. As for Clair, he seems to be taking it all in stride, looking forward to the rest of the season and giving opposition goaltenders all kinds of headaches. The Malmont Atoms will be in action at the Scugog Arena on Feb- ruary 19 as they are the host team in an invitat- ional tournament. 4a BONDED @ MOBILE LOCK SERVICE HOMES ® INDUSTRIAL ® COMMERCIAL AUTHENTIC LOCK & KEY Meadowgreen Court, R.R. 2 Seagrave, Ont.
