The backdrop was a huge. cake, and the arena was festooned with shim- mering silver curtains. A mirror ball added to "the glitfer of the whole scene, The carnival theme was "Then and Now", and appropriately the show opened with the arrival of visiting dig- _nitaries (MPP Ross Stevenson, Mayor Jerry Taylor, Dr. Matthew Dymond, Councillor Neil Hunter, Arena Board Chairman Stan Glass) at centre ice ina '57 Chevy, and an Ann- iversary Waltz around them. It was also great to have Dernis Johnston appear as a guest skater at all three performances. The crowd was also entertained by a variety of guest skaters. Lisa Maddock and Darren Carter, a novice dance pair, impressed. us with grace in both their Waltz Variations and their Free Dance. On " Friday night and Sun- day we enjoyed Ste- phanie Hood's perform- ance, particularly her beautiful combinations of spins. On Sunday we had the additional plea- sure of novice pair Liane Bales and Derek Selby, and loved their beautifuly death spiral.
