v Sy bans a ah Ae 2k J SRNR Shot-gun wedding of wit by Beth Schryburt There Goes the Bride is getting serious atten- tion in order to create a very funny farce. The Borelian Community Theatre of Port Perry has been busy since before Nurse Jane's last show in February; planning, casting and final organization. The play will open on Thurs- day, May 5th and run for two weekends, with two dinner theatres and four cabarets. There will be the customary dress rehearsal free of charge to the shut-ins, rest home residents, and handicapped on the 4th of May. All signs point Workshop features fibre art displays by Doreen Stainton The April meeting was held at the Museum Schoolhouse on Monday, April 11th. Many of our members will be attending the Regional workshop to be held in Greenwood on April 30th. At the workshop there will be a display representing our Fibre Artist Group which will include literature on natural dyes, fibre samples, posters, hand- spun chrocheted articles of clothing, handwoven placemats, rag rugs etc. After the business was concluded, Frances Solar displayed her latest handwoven tops. Handwoven rag rugs were also shown by other members. Our next meeting will be on May 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the museum. At this meeting we will be putting the rag rug warp on the loom in the log cabin. This will be used for display during the summer mohths for visitors. and school groups to view. Visitors are welcome. to yet another first class performance by a first class troupe. Once the play was chosen a capable pro- ducer had to be found. Debra Duck of Black- stock is that kind of producer. She moved to the area two years ago from Toronto where she worked for an adver- tising Agency, Ogilvy and Mather, Vickers and Benson. She has had acting experience in, Harvey, Oliver and The Home Town Revue. Just for fun while living in Toronto she was on the Board of Directors for a private sports and rec- _ reation club, holding the positions of public re- lations and secretary. Debra now works for Zoecon Industries in Port Perry and admits. she has become addict- ed to theatre. Debra as a producer held all the lose ends together for the Borelian Christmas Production, Stick With Molasses. Confident that the business end of the pro- duction was under control the right kind of director became important to find. The Borelians found Gerry Dewan of Oshawa. Gerry's interest in theatre began in high school; he has pursued that love to the west coast and France, dabbling in vaudeville style theatre. He likes doing unusual plays and for the good old 'bread and butter' he teaches Theatre Arts and History at O'Neill Coll- egiate in Oshawa. The play is running smoothly with two weeks to go. One major search has been launch- ed to find some old style (1920's) music. Keep your eyes open for: "I Won't Dance. Don't Ask Me", I Want To Be Happy"., 'Over My Shoulder"., and 'Heaven, I'm in Heaven". If you locate any one of these 'oldies. but goodies', please call Debright away 986-5292.
