The Scugog Mens Non-Contact Hockey League wrapped up a successful season with a dinner and dance Saturday night at Haugen's Restaurant in Manchester. Winners of individual awards for the league this season were from left: Doug Bronson (Greg's) top scorer; Ray Zaparanuik captain of Greg's playoff winners; Pete Namienko (Sportsland) top goalie; Dave Bourgeois (Greg's) league MVP; and Rick Olaisen (B.J. Donuts) winners of league championship. Men's Hockey Awards Individual team MVPs were from left: Bob Tarbotton (B.J.'s) 'Pete Namienko (Sportsland) Rick Hope (Greg's). APRIL 25th THROUGH 29th -- EDUCATION WEEK IN PORT PERRY - PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 19, 1983 -- 21 Belles help to put Port Perry on Ringette map On Saturday, April 4th, the IGA Belles travelled to Lindsay for the annual Regional 'C' division Tournament. The girls first game was on Saturday morn- ing at 10:00 a.m. against Lindsay. The Belles started the day off slowly. Lindsay came up on the winning end with a score of 8-4. The second game was against Ajax. Port play- ed a fantastic game "inning 9-2. The loss in the first game meant the Belles had to play one more game and win to make it to the championship. Their next game was against Warkworth and Port did it again. The Belles beat Warkworth . by a score of 3-1. This win put the Belles into the Champ- fonship game where Port met up with Lindsay once again, only this time the IGA Belles were the victors with a score of 7-6. Winning this tourna- ment not only meant the gold medal for Port but 'the win put the Belles into the Regional "B" Division tournament _ where the Ringette cal- iber was much higher. Oshawa scored 5 goals in the first half, but Port caught on to their play and thus lim- ited Oshawa's scoring to only two goals in the second half. The final score of this game was 7-0. The second game was against Whitby. Port was on the scoreboard first with a goal by Kelly Raines, assisted by Michelle Andrews. This game was a see- saw battle right up to the end. With only 25 seconds left on the clock, Whitby's no.27 Connie Hamers scored the winning goal. This game proved how well our IGA Belles played in a higher caliber tourna- ment. The last team Port played was Ajax. Ajax won this game 6-1. Our goal was scored by Janice Jackman assist- ed by Michelle And- rews. These two tourna- ments ended the Ring- ette season and the Belles have a team, the coaching staff and their sponsor IGA can be proud of. These girls rews with 3 goals, 8 assists; Stephanie Butt 3 goals, 5 assists; Brenda Shepstone 1 goal, 1 assist; Tish Lefort and Michelle Newell each had 2 assists; Diane Mec- Dougall and Tracey Olsen each with 1 assist.
