Scugog hit with big increase Even though most municipalities in Dur ham will be paying 1 than five per cent more to the Region in taxes in 1983, Scugog Township has been asked to come up with an additional eight per cent. The reason Scugog is being hit with the high- est percentage increase in the Regional levy this year is due to the vary- ing rates of assessment growths in each munici- pality relative to each other. In what is a very com- plicated system that is always a source of con- sternation. for Regional councillors, equaliza- tion factors are averag- ed for the last three years to come up witha - formula for apportion- ing the share of the Regional levy increase among all eight munici- palities. Last year, Scugog's share of the increase was small, while New- castle ,was hit with a larger increase. This' year, the numbers are reversed. The increase for Scugog is eight per cent, or $108,000, while New- castle will actually be D. Brodie named director A 'former GM of Canada executive Dun- can A. The' figures released last week may be sub- ject to slight changes as Durham Region council will not strike the final Regional budget until April 27.
