Nurses are constantly re- quired to make indepen- dent judgements based on sound knowledge and experience" said Bonnie Mills, chairperson of Nurses' Week Commit- tee of the Port Perry Hospital. The cemmittee is composed of nurses from the hospital who are planning special ac- tivities to mark Nurses' Week, May 1 to 7. "The Ontario health care system is possibly one of the best in the world and nurses are proud to make a con- tribution to the maintenance of these high standards" said Mrs. Mills. The annual Nurses' Week activities are an opportunity for the nurs- ing profession ta educate the public about the con- tribution of nurses to the welfare of the community. "We want to set aside this one special week in the year to talk to the community to remind everyone that constant caring of nurses is back- ed up by professional training and skills' said Mrs. Mills. There will also be an Information Booth set up in the IGA, where free literature will be available. Also for all nurses in the Port Perry area there is going to be a tea on Friday, May 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Anglican Church Hall. Bonnie Mills is chairperson of the committee at Port Perry Hospital which has organized several events during this week to focus public attention on the work done by the almost 60,000 registered nurses in this province. Don't forget next practise The April meeting of the Fidelis Unit of Greenbank U.C.W. was held at the home of Muriel Gibson on the evening of April 6th. The meeting began with a - short choir practice in preparation for the U.C.W. church service on--May-1st. (Ladies please remember our next practice to be held on Wed. April 27th at 8 p.m. in the church. Helen Thomson, Muriel Gibson and Ellie Speck led the group in the devotional part of the meeting which began with thoughts on the topic read by Helen Thomson followed by the singing of the hymn '"'Bread of Heaven". After the reading of scripture and a prayer, Ellie Speck sang a beau- tiful solo, "How Firm a Foundation". Several readings on the theme "Dedication and Per- serverance" were given and the hymn "Lead On -Oh King Eternal" con- cluded the worship service. -- Our president, Mary Jean Till 'then chaired the business meetin which began with al reciting the U.C.W. pur- pose in unison. Follow- ing the Secretary and Treasurers reports we were told that 8 new choir gowns had arrived, then Helen Thomson gave her report on the U.C.W.
