Scugog Island News by Mrs. Earl Reader The "Friendship" U.C.W. is sponsoring for the public, a showing of the award-winning film, "If You Love This Planet", on Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at the Island United Church. Silver collection, re- freshments provided and babysitting ser- vices. The weather was certainly on our side for Saturday when "Grace" U.C.W. served a hot luncheon to a large number who later went to the Community Hall to enjoy an afternoon of viewing interesting dis- plays, and demonstra- tions and possibly man i" reasonable purchase while they visited with friends. We were pleas- ed to have gathered up 33 paintings of the late Edna McLaren. They consisted of a variety of scenes in various local- ities, animals, flower arrangements and buildings, as well as her general flower garden. We were also pleased to see a collection of family pictures and her biography. A niece, Mrs. Lucille Gray, recalled incidents HELPFUL HINTS _ When washing crystal - rinse in one part vinegar. to three parts warm water and air dry. of visits with Edna and her present affiliation with the "Head" U.C.W. Then she officially open- ed the bazaar and bake sale. No one enjoyed the afternoon more than visiting children who found many purchases within their budget. We are pleased to report that Miss B. Mc- Lean's mother has had her surgery and is out of intensive care. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love back from a healthy and enjoyable sojourn in Florida. Miss McLean's sermon on Sunday was entitled "Songs at Mid- night" and recalled the experiences of people thro' the ages who had reason to express their feelings and thoughts in song and a strong desire to stand up for Jesus. In the early Sunday afternoon, 15 Girl Guides awith their leaders, commission- ers, parents and friends totalling about 70 met at the Community Hall to honour Tanya Bobbie, Lisa Steinmueller and Stephanie Tower when they received their All Round Cord in a special presentation ceremony. The girls received gifts and all took part in a program of songs etc. Lunch was highlighted by a cake especially Ay Aer TAR AE ls SIPPY aba eS TAR Fo Ww SER SARA AEE ft PL ¥ 4 SoA EN sive decorated in Guide colours and designs by Wayne DeJong.
