Show you care and get out to see the efforts of the children have made -- attitudes about learning are often $1 million a minute spent in arms race by W. Tamblyn "Growing in Faith Together" was the theme of the 21st annual meeting of the Bay of Quinte Conference United Chureh Women held in Trinity United Church, Cobourg on April 5-6, 1983. Mrs. Margaret Gilson of Little Britain presided. The theme leader was Mrs. Edith Ming, vice- president of the World Federation of Methodist Churches. Mrs. Ming resides in New York Ci- ty but spends a great deal of time working with her sisters in the Carribean. Her thoughts shared and her gift of music freely given was indeed a growing ex- perience together for the 185 in attendance. Reports from various committees of Con- ference show that 32 can- didates for Ministry received assistance from the Bursary Fund. Women are studying about mission and are reaching out. In order to keep pace we must in- crease our Mission and Service allocation this year by 12'% per cent. Events for Women will be held September 9th to 11th at Camp Quin-Mo- Lac with Mrs. Marion Logan leading with the theme- "'Special Gifts of Women of the Church" and Fenelon Falls will host the mid-week event November 8th-9th with Dr. Robert McClure as leader. Rev. John May, Presi- dent of Conference, gathered the assembly in " Faith at the table for an opening Communion ser- vice, and conducted the Election and Installation of Officers at the conclu- sion of the session. The highlights of this year's meeting was a Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday morning when Joanne Fairhart- Houlden, senior writer for the Observer, was guest speaker. She brought attention to the fact thaat governments are spending a million dollars a minute in the arms race. If that amount of money could be spent for just two weeks on world develop- ment, all humans could have adequate food, clothing, health care and pure water. Joanne also stated that she finds many good things hap- pening at the grass roots level of our church - everything from letter writing to marching under a peace banner. Many U.C.W. groups are busy stitching pic- torial windows and cushion covers for the World Council of Chur- ches meeting in Van- couver this summer. Lynda Jewell of Tren- ton and her gift of music was a gem to our annual meeting. Edith Ming in her solo "I'm only an Or- dinary Person' commis- sioned all to go to work in our U.C.W.'s to express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ, through witness, study, fellowship and service. $1,261.02. 304% per month 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix Coupe Based on Philp Pontiac-Buick Ltd.
