I only wish that the really warm weather would not re- main quite so elusive but then I have to admit to not being a very patient soul. One things for sure - it's certainly welcome after several months of cold and dreary weather! The big news scoop of the week for the Bea- cock household is that my brother and his wife, Keith and Donna Rodd of Uxbridge, presented us with a beautiful bundle of blue on Friday evening. This little man weighed in at 7 lbs. 12- oz. and it probably won't be too long before he starts showing his little sister, Jacqueline just who's boss around their house! Congratulations to his great-grand- mother Mrs. Myrtie Stone who counts this little one as her 27th pearl on her string of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Isabel Skelton and daughters from Richmond Hill spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Marion Durward. Friday, Mrs. Patricia Bailey and little Courtney also paid a visit to her mothers for the day and to end a busy weekend Marion and her sister, Muriel Gibson of Greenbank enjoyed having dinner at Haugens. Congratulations to a couple of Seagrave boys who have done us proud this weekend. Barry Willerton and Eddie Cole participated in the 5th Annual Oshawa This Week Classic 10 Km. Road Race which took place at the Civic Fields in Oshawa on Sunday. There was an estimated number pf 300 partic- ipants entered in this run and Barry placed 91st with a time of 43:08 and Eddie placed in 125th position with a Ken Taylor guests at convocation Kenneth Taylor, Cana- dian Consul General in New York, will be the speaker at Durham Col- lege's Fifteenth Annual Convocation on May 28. The ceremony starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. He exhibited great valor in rescuing - American Consular staff and their families during the hostage taking ordeal in Iran. Mr. Taylor received the United States Congressional Gold Medal, and is an Of- ficer of the Order of -- Canada. Keep it up guys and we'll look forward to hearing some news of future victories on the track! We were sorry to hear of the passing of a good friend last week, the late Mr. Ed. Brown of Leaskdale. Ed and Dorothy developed and operated the Country Heritage Museum in that area and hosted a good number of tours and picnics at their home and. made a tremendous lot of friends and acquaint- ances throughout the years. We extend our deepest sympathy to Dorothy during this most difficult time. Congratulations to Brad Puckrin who was one of two R.H. Cornish pupils who were chosen to attend the Educators Breakfast at the Har- wood Secondary School in Ajax, last Friday morning to kick-off Education Week in Durham Region. Brad and Miss Vicky Rensink were distinquished guests due to their high academic standing. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy re- covery are extended to 'Mrs. Myrtie Stone who is undergoing surgery on Wednesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! Happy Birthday greetings to Barbara Short, Ruth Zulity and Fern Tothn who are all blowing out one more candle on their birthday cake! The U.C.W. ladies hosted the church ser- vices at Greenbank, Seagrave and Pinedale on Sunday and perform- ed splendidly. Thank you ladies! Next Sunday, May 8 the Sacrament of Baptism will be held and any parents wishing to have their child bap- tized are requested to meet at the home of Rev. Rodgers-on May 2 at 7:30. Due to the fact that next Sunday is Mother's Day church will be held at the usual 10:00 a.m. but there will not be any Sunday School classes. Parents - please take note of this change. On Sunday, May 15 our Minister will be attending the Bay of Quinte Conference and in his absence our special guest speaker will be one of our repre- sentatives to the Toc Alpha Conference which was held in Toronto last December. It will be quite interesting and informative and we extend a warm welcome to any of our area young people to join us on this particular Sunday. Mr. Donald Mac- Naughton will be the featured guest speaker for Seagrave's Sunday School Anniversary service which will be celebrated on Sunday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. S.. School classes will be discontinued on this day in observance of this special service. That evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Pinedale. United Church the Wright Singers will entertain for the evening. So circle these dates folks and plan-to attend! Don and I enjoyed attending the 50th ann- iversary-celebration for Vic and Minnie Larocque of Cedar Creek on Sunday along with a host of other family and friends who also joined in wishing them continued health and happiness. The teachers and students are to be highly commended for their combined efforts in pre- paring and arranging such a successful Open House and Science Fair at the local schools last week. It truly was an entertaining evening and we parents wish to thank each and every- one who was responsible for the various pro- grams and displays. The Parks Board are requesting that all or any able-bodied citizens meet at the park on Saturday, May 7 at 9:00 a.m. for a general clean- up bee. Kind of like an old-fashioned Arbor Day folks! So please be at the park on Saturday to give the folks a hand - keep in mind that many hands make light work! Be there - we're count- ing on you! With the advent of warm weather out of the house come the bats, ball gloves and little boys with grass stains and holes in their jeans. That's it folks - baseball season is here! Bud Wylie has been busy making plans for the kids baseball leagues for this up-coming season. The leagues are made up of the following age groups: Pee Wee - ages 13-14, Squirts - 10, 11 & 12, Mites - up to the age of 9 can be both girls and boys on the same team. Girls team for gals aged 10-14. Mr. Wylie has placed a poster at the Seagrave Country Store and if you're interested in join- ing one of the above teams please make sure you sign up before Sat- urday, May 21. Parents of prospec- tive ball players are urgently needed to coach these enthusiastic kids! So please dad or mom give it some con- sideration and then call Bud Wylie at 985-9100.
