Learning disabilities topic for meeting on Thursday night The Association for Children with Learning Disabilities will be holding their general meeting this Thursday, May 5at 8:00 p.m. in the Whitby Public Library. Guest speaker for this very important meeting will be Dr. Wenday Roberts, a prominent Toronto pediatrician whose theme will be "Learning Disabilities." Church Women were in charge of the service last Sun- day giving the ushers and male members of the choir a holiday. Mrs. Helen McKean assisted in the pulpit with the order of service. The choir of Unit members sang two very approp- riate numbers which were enjoyed by all. Mrs. Linda Hunter, the regular organist was assisted by Mrs. Betty Stone at the piano. Next Sunday May 8 a special Mothers Day service and sacrament of baptism. Also keep in mind the Sunday School Anniver- sary service at Sea- grave on May 29. Wednesday May 4, the afternoon Unit meets in the church at 2 p.m. and the evening Unit at 8 p.m. Mrs. Eva Hunter will demonstrate how Macrame can change a worn out lawn chair into a new creation. A very Happy Birth- day Party was held Sat- urday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Blakely for Lorne and his grandson, Curtis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Blakely. A very happy surprise for Lorne was a phone call Greenbank W.I. plans for fall fairs by M. Beaton Greenbank W.I. held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Helen Thomson, on Wed- nesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Our president, Mrs. Iva Phoenix, open- ed the meeting with a poem '"When Faith Is Strong". After the Ode, and Mary Stewart Collect, Mrs. Rachael McMillan read the min- utes, and gave the 'treasurers report. The Roll Call was answered by paying our fees for the coming year. Our display at Port Perry and Uxbridge Fairs are to be discussed at the next meeting. Mrs. Doris Hill report- ed on the Community Care meeting she attended recently where she had been presented with a certificate. We were reminded of our district annual meeting at Myrtle on May 25th. The installation of Officers for the ensuing year then took place; with Mrs. Clara Warren ~ of Honeydale_ Institute doing the installing. President - Iva Phoenix; 1st vice - Helen McKean; 2nd Vice - Margaret Couper- waite; Secretary- Treasurer - Rachael McMillan; Assistant - Betty Stone; District Director - Marion Innis; Alternate - Bessie Donneral; Currator - Dorothy Ianson; P.R.O. - Marjorie Beaton. The yearly reports were given by the Con- venor's proved very interesting. The Minutes of the last annual meeting was approved as read by Mrs. Rachael McMillan. Mrs. Margaret Couper- thwaite reported on the making of maple syrup, with an interesting dis- play, and also read a poem on "Time to Make the Most of Our Days". Several ladies from the community attended a shower on Saturday at the home of Mrs. Jill Bradley, Port Perry in honour of Miss Janet 'Blair of Sonya. Janet will become the bride of Mr Steven Notting- ham on May 21st in Greenbank Church. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Couperthwaite have re- turned home after a two week holiday in Florida. Teenagers - the next meeting of the Green- bank Teen Group will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 11 o'clock a.m. at the Greenbank Hall. All teens invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Al Murray, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hunter. Sorry to hear Mrs. Toni Minton is a patient in Uxbridge Hospital, to her, and all other people sick in Hospital or shut- ins at home our get well wishes and hope you are out soon. The community of Saintfield, many other relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. bill Hill attended a 25th Wedding Anniversary Party at Utica Hall on Saturday evening. The Ontario Ministry of Revenue is mailing cheques which comprise the first instalment of the 1983 Property Tax Grant of up to $250 and a temporary Home Heating Grant of $40. These cheques were mailed on April 29th. Who will receive it? MB If you are 65 or over and own or rent your home, you are eligible for the Property Tax Grant. B The 1983 instalment cheque is mailed to Ontario seniors who received the 1982 Property Tax Grant. @ This is intended to help you pay your property tax or rent for the first part of 1983. In the fall you will automatically receive an application for the balance of your grant. Who will not Ta 1 Basically, if you didn't receive a 1982 Property Tax Grant, you will not receive the spring instalment. In particular, seniors should note that: Mm If you reside in a nursing home, home for the aged or any property tax-exempt institution, you are not eligible for the Property Tax Grant. Wm If you turned 65 after December 3st, 1982 (and therefore did not qualify for a grant last year) you also will not receive the spring instalment. However, you will receive an application for the entire 1983 grant in the fall.
