As many as 150 golf courses across the pro- vince are expected to participate.in the 8th an- nual Al Balding's Golf Week for Timmy, scheduled May 14 to 23. Golfers can enter by attending any par- ticipating golf course and purchasing a Timmy score card for $10. Two dollars from each entry fee goes towards prizes and the remainder goes to the Easter Seal Socie- ty. Male and female win- ners from each club are eligible to attend the Tournament of Cham- pions at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Stouffville. Also, with the pur- chase of a Timmy score card, your name will be eligible for a one week vacation for two to Sun 'n Lakes Estates in Sebr- ing, Florida, Al Balding's winter residence, to be > drawn at the Tourna- ment of Champions on July 5. Port Perry Mini-Golf and Driving Range will host a Mini-Putt tourna- ment May 14 for teams of five players. Scugog councillors will be par- ticipating and have issued a challenge to all comers. ; ' "The Mayor and four councillors will be there' to take on all challengers," Jerry Taylor reported at a kick-off luncheon for the event last Wednesday at Thunderbird Golf and Country Club. A $50 pledge is re- quired by each team that enters the competition ($10 per person) with all proceeds going to the Easter Seal Society. Last year, $4,000 was raised during this event and * organizers are hoping to top that amount this year. Dale Allen, a represen- 'tative of the Durham Regional Police Associa- tion says the $10 entry fee is one thing people can still take advantage of without worrying about inflation. "It's the one thing that hasn't changed since all this began eight years ago," he said. "When you see your policeman out on the golf course, he's not going to give you a ticket -- he's going to try and sell you a ticket." Golf pro. Al Balding has been promoting the fund-raising week since its inception and admits he never thought he'd receive as much pleasure as he has from golfing for Timmy, the Easter Seal's represen- tative of handicapped children everywhere. This year's Timmy is Blair Crawford, a 14 year old Coronation Public School student in Oshawa who suffers from cerebral palsy. "I hope everyone has fun," Timmy said.
